| The town's bus pulled up to the academy for gifted children, and as soon as the only passenger left, so did it. The former passenger only had a backpack with him, which didn't seem like it would be enough for a couple years stay at a school. A steel gate stood between the boy and his new school. Just from appearance, the school seemed to be well kept. They either had a lot of custodians, or had no tolerance for slobs. i'm sorry don't hurt me i can't make topics ;-; | |

| For the first time this year, the grounds were filled with color and scents. Spring had finally arrived! All types of trees, bushes, and wild plants were in bloom, and the bees had taken notice; they were buzzing about almost cheerfully, large bumblebees being pet by some of the smarter (or more curious) students. Those kids were milling about, socializing, enjoying the weather, or just plain messing around. The skies were clear, the morning sun providing enough warmth to be comfortable, but still promise the entire day would remain just how it was.
It also appeared the school had bought a statue for the gates, made of solid rock. It was about five and a half feet tall, resembling a teen student that was sitting peacefully on a bench of the same material, staring off into the distance. It was highly detailed, each hair could be traced back to a single pore! It was amazing work of art, until you realized this was no masterpiece at all; the statue was Heron Sabine, the substance mimicker. He had completely transformed himself into this type of rock; he didn't even breathe, nor did he have any body heat.
This exact spot, with the best view of the entrance, was meant for his experiment. And what is that, you ask? To be brief, Heron was testing the fight or flight responses of the students, using his own power as the surprise factor. "Wonder how many "fight" students I will find. Probably more than the average school," he thought to himself, though the two sentences took a full minute to form. The Winter student remained quiet, waiting for a victim test subject. Oh look, a new kid had just arrived. Perfect!

| As he walked up to the gates, something caught his eye. It was a statue of a... kid? Maybe the first Headmaster? Wouldn't it have a plaque though? The statue seemed out of place, almost like someone had moved it in overnight for some type of prank. Besides all of that, it kind of creeped him out. It looked like it was staring at him. As he neared the statue, he stopped to take a look at it. Despite it's creepy look, it looked smooth and beautiful, almost like it belonged in a museum. Slowly, he stretched his hand out in an attempt to touch it. | |

| Slowly, he could feel himself returning. As usual, his face slowly loosened from its rocky state, eyes and tongue first. It felt odd, being able to feel certain parts become liquid again, sensing his heart begin to beat again. He remained as still as possible. Right at the moment he could speak, he did.
"Boo."
Now was the moment of truth: would this students jump back, or punch him? One out of ten students he had tested were ready to give him a black eye. Yesterday hadn't been fun at all: some students were still on edge after what he'd nicknamed "The Egg War." Still, he went through with it for science. His dark eyes stared at the student, analyzing his reaction, leaving his head mostly rocky in case of impact.

| He placed a couple fingers to the statue, feeling something strange. It still felt hard, but not as. His eyes trailed up to its face, which seemed to have changed from just a couple of seconds before. This figure seemed to get stranger every passing moment, he wouldn't be surprised if this was some kind of guardian of the school or something. Just as he was about to take his hand away and leave, then the thing moved. The sudden scare was enough to make his gift flare up, and an immense pressure surrounded the boy who was once a statue, pushing him down to the ground. | |

| Although he had prepared himself for a strike, Heron wasn't prepared to hit the ground. The gravel dug into his skin as what felt like lead chains dragged him to the earth. What was happening? Could this kid control gravity itself? "Thanks.. for.. participating," he managed to get out before slowly becoming a loose pile of gravel. He didn't like this, he could still feel forms of this kid's power. Who was he? What kind of family could carry a gift as powerful as this?
Having your brain scattered across the ground as pieces of rock wasn't helping much with the thinking. After waiting for the other boy to lift the sudden change in gravity, the Winter went back to a human form. He felt no annoyance; the dark-haired student had bought this upon himself, after all. As he stood, he flicked a few remaining rocks off his face.
"That's one power you got," he said, with a hint if an accent. "Can you just increase gravity?" Heron was genuinely curious, especially since he had been easily thrown to the dirt, almost without effort.
