Gotta Get Away [OPEN]

It was the middle of the night. Magic ended up having a nightmare about something he never wanted to think about again. Something he left behind a long time ago, and hoped he would completely avoid seeing it by coming to this school. Having the nightmare made the usually polite, cheerful boy, angry. He held resentment in his eyes, and the was a frown on his face where he usually had a smile. Raising from his bed, and a quick change of clothes the boy raced out her dorm he shared with no one, and went for the forest.

Once he reached the dark forest, where the stars shone brightly did the boy finally stand still. He knew he couldn't be around the school at the moment, and he also knew he could get into trouble for being out at the moment. The more he thought about the nightmare and his past the angrier he got. Magic curled his hands into a fist and looked at the nearest tree. He gritted his teeth, and let his fist fly into the tree which ended up leaving a small hole in the tree itself due to his powers reacting with his anger.

After punching the tree, Mason let out a few shakey breaths before turning around and slumping down to the ground, and sitting with his back against the tree. He was trying to calm down but it wasn't working. It wasn't working at all.

The night was turned into the same cloudy, sickly gray of water that would be used to clean paint brushes splattered with fleeting streaks of black and blue. Lamia wasn't sure why she was out in the forest tonight, her limp fingers clutching tightly on a telescope as her foggy golden eyes peered into them, seeking the stars that relaxed her each night. Perhaps that was why she was an insomniac - she was terrified of her own nightmares and solved her problems by running away instead of heading towards them, charging at them headfirst. Either way, the night tonight almost seemed to tell her something was wrong, and the Winter had left her dorm quietly to find out what that could be.

At first, she heard the soft footsteps of someone running through the hallway, their steps a staccato rhythm that was rushed far too suddenly and brisk that it was of concern. She had only seen a small shadow of who it was, but in curiosity, had followed after bundling up in a thick coat. It seemed that the cold breezes did not leave, despite the warm days that came by as the sun burned time until summer. Her movements were slow and her feet were dragging themselves, her bones chilled to the core as the blowing wind pierced her exposed face, bringing a rosy tint to her features.

Lamia had stopped to take a break in a small clearing, the pines and oaks towering high above her, forming a dense canopy overhead as the frigid air was filled with the crisp scent of cedar. Bringing her knees close to her, she traced her pale, slender fingers onto the bark slowly, her breath slow and steady, sturdy but light. She was about to get up when she felt a jolt from the tree she was leaning send a tremor through her own body, almost as though it was a mini earthquake as the leaves scattered, falling like first flakes of snow in winter.

A breath was carried throughout the forest, too loud for the clearing as it was the only sign of life in the dead of the night. There was another breath and another, and she could feel paranoia creeping up on her. Brushing off a bit of the dust, she stood up ever so slowly, and without daring to look, she mumbled softly that it was almost incoherent, "I-is a-anyone th-there...?"

Her eyes were closed and she took a deep breath of the cold night air through her nose in an attempt to reassure herself that it was an actual person rather than a hungry wolf or worse. Don't be ridiculous. You're not a very good-looking piece of prey. You look pretty hungry yourself. She couldn't help but pull her baggy clothes just a bit closer and put her telescope to her eye to peer up at the cloudy night sky, looking for the same stars to comfort herself as a shiver ran down her spine.

You're being absolutely pathetic. This is paranoia. Nothing else. No one else is out there. Hopefully...

Unfortunately for Lamia, Magic could not hear her like last time. In fact he could barely hear at all. His power was making up for it's strength by taking away his hearing. He could only hear someone if they were shouting at him at this point, but no one knew that, not even Magic himself.

Magic didn't know that the girl was there. He did not know that she was in the small clearing that he stood so close too. His mind was stuck and he didn't know what to do. It kept replaying past events. There was nothing he could think about at this moment to make him feel better. All Magic could do was sit and listen to the whispers of the past that filled his mind.

Eventually the heavy breathing boy stood from his spot, and shoved his hands into his jacket pockets. His green eyes were dark. Whispers started filling the air around him. His thoughts becoming sound that Mason was creating with out his knowledge. Anger swelled within Magic, causing him to open his mouth and let out a yell, but the yell was manipulated, the frequency was higher than normal human hearing range, and the sound was accelerated and aimed at three trees in the area. The sound had struck the trees sending shattered wood pieces around the area, and causing the trees to fall to the ground.

Ragged breathing escaped Magic once again. Normally if Magic used this much power he would be passed out by now due to the lack of energy, but the anger was fueling him. Eventually he would get tired, but not anytime soon, unless something happened to get him to calm down.

No answer. Yet, there was a thick, dense rhythm of breathing that cut through the silence like a blade that was honed to rip through the flesh of an unsuspecting animal, and it was coming from the base of the tree - just on the other side. Now, it was fairly obvious that someone was there, and Lamia had to muster up just enough courage to look over and see a taller boy standing up from his spot upon the desolate, dry ground, his midnight black hair obscuring his facial features from her view. What appeared to be the source of the short, stiff breaths suddenly contorted into a deafening, indignant screech.

Her hands quickly shot up to cover her ears, and she nestled deeper into her jacket, wincing at the sounds as she tried to find some kind of respite. But it wasn't working. She could feel the chill piercing through her scarce amount of protection, creeping up like the howling autumn winds that stalked the spring. In spite of all this, she would prefer to freeze to death rather than talk to someone who may or may not have anger management issues. The ground was rumbling, sending tremors to the  heart of the trees around, and they were vibrating violently, shaking in pain and crying out in sadness. As soon as she realized that one of the trees was the one she was leaning on, Lamia awkwardly rolled out of the way, and got back to her feet.

Lamia turned at the sound of bark crackling in the air through the dark, obscure clouds, and they almost seemed to fly at her. Ducking quickly, she found herself at the back of the stranger and stiffened at the sight of him. She didn't know what to do, and she was terrified. Her pale skin turned ashen and she was trembling, and despite all of this, she found herself taking steps closer and closer until her hand almost touched his shoulder.

Go ahead... Take baby steps and help him! Her fingers hesitated to tap the other boy, but her mind thought otherwise as it almost seemed to involuntarily do everything for her. Go figure. My own body won't listen to me, a stupid, idiotic, dumb, person.

Leo had been training that night, focusing on harnessing the more mental ability of his powers. Which was hard because he had no one to practice on. Not that he'd ask someone to be his lab rat. He was too afraid of hurting someone. So thus he spent most of the night finding a way to access his powers. Which he found, that he had better results when at peace or calm. Meditation, and lots of it.  At the moment of Magic's tremor, Leo sat in the middle of a clearing, his back arched into correct posture and his legs folded into a criss-cross position. He bathed in the crisp air of the night, the crickets hid in the bushes and sang. In the distance an owl hooted, in search of it's meal. It was a peaceful night, and Leo expected to get progress with his power.

Leo heard the yell as he felt the tremors. Blue eyes snapping open, he searched for the source, only to be blinded by the splinters of trees around him. 'What the-?' He thought in bewilderment. Rising from his sitting position, the blond used his hands to shield himself from the wood. Once the blast stopped, Leo spotted a girl and a boy. The boy looked angry, and the girl looked frightened however wanting to help. The blast seemed to have come from the boy...? 'If this boy created, THIS. He must be dangerous. I don't think this girl knows what she is getting into. But, neither do I.' Taking a step forward, to where he was in front of the boy, and he could most likely see him, Leo began to talk.

"Hey?" He offered questioningly. He was ignored. Frowning, Leo took another step toward the green eyed boy.

"Hey." It was a bit louder, however not a yell. Ignored. With a tilt of his head, he muttered, "Are you deaf?" He sent an unsure glance toward the girl. Who ever this guy was, he looked pissed. To be honest, Leo didn't want one of those blasts that destroyed those trees sent in his face. 'Maybe he can't hear well. He did just send out that high pitched yell...'

"Hey!" This time, it was a shout. However, Leo made sure it wasn't threatening in any way. Forcing his own face to be controlled and calm, he took a few more strides before he was a few feet away from the boy.

Magic ragged breaths soon steadied. He was back to his to normal heavy breathing. He thought he could feel someone's heat on on his shoulder but shrugged it off. His hands flexed for a moment before his hand s returned back to a fist. He was about to hit something else when a boy stepped into his view.

No... No.. This isn't what he wanted. Magic's expression grew from angry to a little sad. It seemed liked the boy was trying to get his attention, but he couldn't hear him, which made him more angry. Usually his power allowed him to hear even the slightest sound but now he couldn't hear anything. Why?

Magic blinked when heard a slight sound, it sounded like 'hey'. He didn't know what to do. He uncurled his hands for a moment. The blonde haired boy moved closer. He was confused. Why was he here? Magic thought he was alone. He came out here so he would get away from the other students, and wouldn't cause danger. His hands recurled into a fist. "What are you doing?" He asked in a stressed tone, like he could barely hear himself, which he barely could. His own voice sounded so faint. "Go away before I hurt you!" He shouted a little loudly send a wave of sound with it but it was only enough to stir up a gust or something. He threatened only to get him away. He didn't want to hurt anyone but he knew with the state he was in he would.

Mason clenched his teeth as his thoughts returned to the oh so hated thing. But instead of assisting in his rampage his power did something different. It started playing part of a song, but Magic couldn't hear it. He couldn't hear much at all. 'Can nobody hear me? I got a lot that's on my mind. I cannot breath. Can you hear it too?' The song stated basically speaking Magic's thoughts for him.

Lamia froze on the spot, her hand caught in the air where she had softly tried to get his attention. She could feel another person's eyes boring into her as she blanked out, hearing his voice in almost muted way. A gulp could be heard, pink coloring her cheeks, and she slowly began to step closer, not caring about the danger that could possibly be present, as quietly as a mouse's piano-stringed steps. Her eyes darted nervously from side to side, peering over at the new boy as she carefully, slowly edged forward, careful not to make any sudden movements that might startle the rather upset student in front of her. Most people didn't normally notice her, she was like a shadow, always second to someone else. It didn't even seem as though the person in front of her acknowledged her presence or the fact that she existed, but the dark-haired Winter was not concerned about that for the time-being.

And then it hit her.

A relapse? She'd... done... things. Things she wasn't proud of. Katsuo, Aiko, Kearn, Callum, and her. All of them. Lots of things that nobody would expect from someone so timid and hid in the darkness and the deepest corners of a cavern like a bat, too scared to go out in the sunlight. The mornings she had after a rather traumatic event were so disorienting. Sick, dizzy, almost like a hangover, and being stuck in the goddamn prison of the infirmary... the weight of the situation had dropped on her at once, and the following months, Lamia was crushed by it all. She didn't know what to think or feel, and to be perfectly honest, she hadn't shared her thoughts with anyone or talked to another person about it. Besides the headmaster. Most of the time, she had spent was locked up in the infirmary or her dorm, leaving only to go to classes and rushing back. And then... she had been unconscious and woke up in his room. Head throbbing in understanding and pain in her own memories, she was about to try and get his attention again when... CRASH!

"O-ow...!"

Lamia squeaked in pain, and toppled over, the gust not only knocking the balance in her frail body, but caused her to step back and trip over one of the roots of a fallen, dead tree. Rubbing her head as she got into a sitting position, one knee up, she felt herself stiffen with the song. Why do I recognize this tune...? The memory flashed back in, back to when she first met Magic, and then she finally pieced it together. It was the same song as before, except much more melancholic... somber... depressing. The lyrics weren't the same.

"M-m-magic...! Sn-snap o-out of i-it!"

Leo took another step forward, before flattering at the boy’s words. So he must know what kind of position he was in. This student must have come out here for a reason. That worried Leo. If this boy knew to isolate himself from other students, it must be bad.  ’I’ve got to help him.’ Leo couldn’t help but think. Due to his power, he was compelled to help those in need. Regaining his confidence, Leo was about to speak again when an unexpected gust of wind sent him staggering back a few feet. ’What is this guy’s power? Can he control wind…?’ Leo paled at the thought. Students who are able to manipulate base elements such as wind, water, fire, and earth were rumored to be dangerous and very strong.
The girl’s shout brought his attention to her. He’d seen her once or twice in class, but hadn’t paid much attention to her. Magic? The boy’s name was Magic then? It was an odd name to say the least, but then again, there were a lot of things that were weird in Beata. Weird by normal human standards, that is. ”Magic! We didn’t come here to hurt you!” Leo bit his lip worriedly, blue eyes a stormy and troubled color. He continued, ”We are concerned for you! Try and calm down! We are here for you!” He took a few more steps forward, and stood with back straight. ”I’m not afraid!” Well, okay. He was a bit frightened by Magic’s power. Not that he knew much about it, however the destroyed trees seemed to say that he is pretty strong.

Surprise coated Magic's face when he heard something high-pitched behind him. It sounded like a squeak. Magic looked around for a moment then looked over his shoulder. He saw someone but had to fully turn around to see who it was. "L-Lamia?" Did he hurt her? Was it his fault? Did she just shout at him? What did she say? Mason couldn't quite hear what she was saying, but she did say something. He knew she did.

Mason turned back around to face the other boy. He seemed to want to help, though Magic didn't know who it was. 'try and clam down' was all he heard from the boy. He couldn't. It didn't feel like he could. There was so much anger.. Magic noticed that Leo took a couple steps closer. So Magic took a step back in response, but didn't take anymore because he didn't want to step on Lamia. Why were they both here? They needed to leave.

The tall dark-haired boy fell to his knees. He felt a bit tired. What was he doing? He couldn't stop thinking about his past ever since that Nightmare that had struck him earlier in the night. A past he tried to escape when he came here, but all that did was end up hurting Lamia. She was probably afraid of him now..

Magic placed his hands on the ground in front of him, a couple tears dropping to the ground. One of his hands curled back into a fist as it sat on the ground. He lifted the hand shakily, then slammed it on the ground, sending a small tremor through the ground, but his power had weakened causing no damage to the ground. "Why?.." He asked in a weak tone. Why had he done this?

God must have really done it for her. She'd drawn a lot of straws throughout her life, and just when she thought things couldn't get worse...

The moment she heard him, fragile and weak, drops of tiny tears falling, she couldn't imagine just how bad it had just gotten. It was almost like a few months a--- no! Don't think about that. I hate everything. She struggled for a few moments trying to get back up, biting back a curse, and found herself unable to get back up. After once, twice, three times, the Winter flopped back onto the ground in defeat, shaking her head in disbelief. Stop being selfish and help him. That was the only thing that flashed through her head, her expression stuck somewhere between sympathetic and disgusted at herself. Should she say something or should she just leave before she made the problem worse? Thankfully, the barren forest clearing was empty and she could feel more like a ghost.

Her hands balled up slightly, as she readjusted her position, trying once again to sit up, wincing a bit at the sharp pain that ripped through her, using one of them to keep herself up, and the other crossed over as if it would block any more pain from coming. This was more like asking some random stranger for help in rescuing an abducted child rather than talking and trying to comfort someone... How stupid could she get? Lamia, after managing to get herself on top of the fallen tree, seated rather awkwardly, she found herself offering Magic a small smile. It was a nice smile, she hoped, but it was shy and fleeting, queasy, and she found herself staring down at her feet again, meeting her own gaze in a mirror of leaves warped. She felt her heart pounding, trying to leap out of her chest, as she tried to found some way to calm down, to figure things out, and put everything right.

There was no solution that her mind could come up with.

In the end, all she could do was look at the other boy - a classmate? Lamia couldn't really remember -, and with her doe-like eyes, she gave a pleading look as her mouth voiced the words silently to him. Help him... She had no idea what to do. Her self-esteem wasn't helping either. Her eyes closed as she buried her face in her hands, counting mentally to ten, trying to find some way, anything, to help him. Maybe...? No. She didn't know if it'd work. And somehow, her confidence was too long to even think of trying such a bold move. Find something else... Ahaha... God, I'm pathetic. Do something... something... help him... help him, you piece of---

Leo was hesitant to take a step forward while the panicking boy stood in front of the girl. He knew that he had to be careful. One mistake could get someone hurt. Magic seemed scared more than angry now, but it was beyond Leo why he'd be scary. The other boy needed to calm down. How was a main question at the time. Leo mainly calmed himself down by focusing on one thing and letting the rest drown itself out. Maybe there was too much going on in Magic's head. Leo sent a worried look at his own hand. 'Perhaps instead of aiming to hurt...I can aim to calm.'

Blue eyes snapped back to the boy, who fell on his knees. Then to the girl, who stared up at him pleadingly, begging. He was needed, and he had to help them. He took a calm breath, and focused on his breathing, calming himself. He would help them, everything would be fine. Once ready, Leo moved toward Magic in a swift motion. Once right before him, Leo stood on his knees matching the other student's height. Without giving the boy a chance to react, Leo placed his hand on the boy's forehead. He brushed away any bangs in Magic's face then began to try calming powers. He wasn't sure how it would work, but all he knew, was that he wanted to channel his calm into the boy. The only way Leo knew it may be working, was the light yellow glow to his hands. The angel boy put on a kind face. 'I am here to help you,' He thought, 'you don't have to shoulder this alone.'

Magic stiffened when he felt a hand on his forehead. What was he doing? He didn'- oh.. Whatever Leo was doing it felt nice. The painful memories seemed to fade. Mason finally understood why they were here. They were trying to help, but all Magic wanted to do was push them away. He wanted to get them away so they wouldn't be hurt. He was just gonna let his anger control him for the rest of the night, or until it finally went away. He kept in his position letting Leo do whatever he was doing. His face wan't contorted with anger anymore. It expressed more of a depressed look.

All Magic could do was look at the ground. He felt so ashamed that he had let this happen. He felt like such a monster.. He glanced up at the damaged area around him finally taking in full account of the damage he had caused. The tree that had a hole in it.. three trees now laid on the ground, with shattered pieces of wood and bark scattered about. Both of the other students that were here must have been so scared, they probably were fearful of him. Magic couldn't bare to look up at the boy in front of him, nor did he dare to look back to Lamia.

His past caused all of this, the numerous people he had hurt. No matter how many times he apologized, he couldn't fix anything. Not even his Mother wanted him. She had sent him to this school not even wanting to figure things out. All she saw was a monster, someone who needed to be fixed.. Someone who needed to change. He realized he need to change which is why he acted the way he did around everyone. A false personality he created from the time he came here, soon became part of him, but he knew that inside him he would break, and here it was. That was the reason he asked people to call him Magic. His real name Mason was reminded him to much of his bad past, his nickname Magic came from a very good old friend of his that reminded him of good memories. Well there was no holding anything back anymore..

Air filled Magic's lungs as he took in a deep breath only to let it out in a form of a heavy sigh. He finally felt calm enough, so he reached up a shakey hand, and wrapped it around Leo's wrist pulling Leo's hand away from his forehead, then letting go. He wasn't going to be perfectly fine for a couple days, but he wasn't going to lose control again. He didn't have the strength to do so. He felt so worn out, so tired, but he couldn't fall asleep like he wanted to at the moment. He knew he would have to talk to them, and most likely explain some things, and why he was on a rampage.

These two people tried to help him they actually had some care in them for them to help out a boy, whom had a weird nickname, and didn't trust anyone with his real name, he didn't really ask for much, nor did he share all that much either, but he felt like he could trust these two. Magic slowly sat up from his position, changing to sit normally. "Call me... Call me Mason.." He said in a soft tone.

Lamia groaned before shaking her head in her hands, trying to cover any vision they had of her face, trying to block out what they were doing. I'm really pathetic... stupidstupidstupidstupid, God. I hate life. Each second that passed seemed to send pains through her temples. It was night, yet she didn't find the same door to escape reality again. She had taken a different one. What could she ever do to help anyone? Nothing, that's what. Nobody would bother with her anyway - she was just a weak, useless, and pathetic girl who only placed more weight on everyone else's shoulders.

After such a long silence, the dark-haired Winter couldn't take it anymore.

Maybe they'll just pretend I'm not here...

Damn life.

Her curiosity got the better of her, and she wasn't hearing the same heavy, weighted pants anymore. And then a long sigh. Lamia slowly stood up, being careful with each of her steps as she got closer. What was it? Could it be a mishap from the past? Or was it a chronic problem? Something so... bad that it affected his entire life--- Oh. Exactly like her. Her head was pounding, with blurry vision that swayed with all of her uneven steps, she felt the burning sensation from her ankle, hissing slightly in pain and out of annoyance, as she mentally cursed to nobody.

The look she expected wasn't what she wanted to see. Depression. Sadness. Grief. Lamia couldn't help but stare for a few moments, and she almost didn't catch what he said. She just stood there, frozen like a deer in headlights, staring at someone who seemed to be a stranger now. The words came spilling out of her mouth before she could get another breath or even think.

"U-uhm, o-okay... Mason?"

Finally, she stopped staring, her eyes wandering to the stars in shame, embarrassment, whatever else it could be. She was fiddling with a lock of hair, doing anything that would keep her distracted for a few moments. A small sigh of relief filled her lungs as the cold night air entered it, and her eyes closed as she found herself relaxing for a few moments. Even when it was this tense, the night could just let her escape reality for a bit. And she found herself saying something that she never thought she'd ask anyone else, except well... Katsuo.

"Y-you f-feel like a m-monster, h-huh...?" One eye opened slightly to look at him, a clear, deep blue that was deep with pain and loneliness with a piercing cold shard. Her voice raised a little bit from her rather weak start. "I'm not afraid of you..."

I could never be when I've done worse.

Blue eyes watched the other student take his hand off his head, noting the gold shine fade away from his skin. Leo then looked to study Magic's face. It was no longer angry, but sad, and a bit depressed. Eyes softening in pity, he let him move his hand away, knowing whatever he had done to help worked. A calming hand then, huh? He was surprised that worked. What else could he achieve with his powers...? That wasn't a question for this moment in time, however he'd investigate later.

Leo listened to the boy speak, before thinking franticly [color:d936=lightyellow'Mason? I thought it was Magic!' The blond hoped he hadn't called him the wrong name, poor guy was already down. Whatever the case, Leo nodded to the boy. "Alright, Mason." He said to the boy, continuously examining the other student's face. "Are you okay?" He asked softly, worried for Mason. It bothered Leo to see people hurt. Of course he wasn't. Duh. Blue eyes left the green eyes of Mason to the girl who stood not too far away. "Are you alright too?" Dumb question again. She looked hurt. Was it because of the tremors...?

Mason.. He shivered when he heard them say it. He hadn't been called that in a while. He didn't really liked be called it, but at the same time he did. It sounded nice. It kind of purified the darkness that came with being called that name, but he would most likely stick with Magic for a while. Or at least around the others. It was gonna take some getting used to being called that. It really was.

Magic heard Lamia perfectly clear. Even though his power was weak, it went back to amplifying his hearing. Even though she asked her question in a really soft tone. He heard it perfectly. "Yes.. I do.. But this isn't the first time I have.." He responded to Lamia. Then he looked at her and blinked when she said she wasn't afraid of him. He expected a shy, timid girl like her, to be super far away from him by now, but there was probably more to the iceberg than the surface.

The first time he felt like a monster was a long time ago. All he considered himself was a monster. Just a monster in a man's shell. He felt like a monster his whole life, up until he came here. This place made him feel human, made him feel normal. He made friends, and he fought with people who could actually fight back.. No one would fight back.. No one.. They would all just run.. or they would tease him until he got angry then they would run.. They never would fight.. Red dotted his life until a couple months ago.

He looked back to Leo when he asked if he was okay. "I will be.." He answered. "My real name is Mason, My nickname is Magic." He said when he noticed that Leo was panicking a bit when he said to call him by his real name. "I did all of this because I couldn't stop thinking about my past... All the issues I had caused.. All the people who called me a monster..." Mason trailed off without saying much more. All the red I left behind in my wake.. He thought.
