Just Another Day [open to everyone]

She walked alone through the courtyard, with a convenience store bag slung over her shoulder. There was an ugly bruise across the side of her face, a stark contrast to her pale skin, and thin linen bandages around her right hand. The scar on her face, a pink scratch from cheekbone to earlobe, had mostly faded. Those were her souvenirs from her vacation in New York. That and a police sketch.

So much for her bronze medal.

Kayla kept her eyes glued to the ground in front of her as she walked. August 5th. It was her birthday today.

Nobody would ever know that. That had been her policy back home, an agreement with her dad. When she was young, she stopped asking for presents, and her dad stopped giving them. It was easier for both of them that way, to not have to pretend that they liked each other for a day. He could use that money on bills or food or booze, and she could use that free time like she always did. Her sister, of course, could never afford a gift even if she remembered the date. Kayla preferred it that way.

I'm starving...

Not watching where she was going, she suddenly went staggering to the side as she bumped into another person's back. Kayla's gaze snapped up, electricity flaring down her arm. "Hey..."

Montare stopped and turned around, looking to see what had just bumped into him. "Watch where you're going," he said, failing to notice the electricity around the student's arm until after he spoke. Montare's face was bruised, the bruises being a reminder of the fight he had been in not too long ago. Luckily, it was long enough ago that they were almost gone. His expression was also one of sorrow, and it too could possibly be blamed on events that had transpired soon after the fight, at least in part. Montare didn't bother to try to say or do anything else, waiting for the girl he wasn't starting to recognize yet to do something first.

There was a flare of anger as recognition lit up in her eyes. Wolfboy. The school's favorite social pariah. She heard his name everywhere lately. 'Montare did this' or 'Montare did that.' His shitty, perverted antics had become a casual conversation piece for the rest of the Academy.

Kayla didn't care about any of that. Her mind flashed back to that day in the woods. How had they started fighting anyways? She honestly couldn't remember. It didn't matter.

She raised a hand, walking forward a step. Blue electricity flickered down her fingers and reflected in her eyes. "Watch where I'm going?" Her lips curled into a snarl. Kayla didn't have the patience for this shit today. "Shut up and back the fuck off before I finish what we started before, asshole."

The courtyard one of Aspens favorite places in the school, the blonde had been sitting on a bench nearby as she hummed a small tune her legs swinging back and foruth in rhythm as she watched the birds flutter around in the sky. It was a rather nice day not too hot and not too cold, a soft breeze had swept Aspens bangs up but she didnt mind the breeze thinking it was rather comforting.

'Watch where your going.' Aspen had blinked when she heard these words turning her head slightly too see two students who were already having an arguement. It was easy too tell even from her distance that both were brusied and on the edge of their nerves. Standing up from the bench and quickly making her way over standing in between the two. She fakes an uneasy and nervous smile as she glanced at them both. Just being around them made Aspen uneasy but she knew the winter prefect: what would Magic and Lamia say if she just let a fight break out in front of her

"Hey now, lets not rile each other up. Just take deeeep deeep breaths okay?" The autumn said inhaling in and out as an example before she smiled friendly at them. Although she doubted that this would make them both calm down..

Now Montare recognized her. She was the one who came out of nowhere and electrocuted him awhile back, which lead to a fight between the two breaking out. Montare glared at Kayla, completely ignoring the autumn that was trying to calm them both down."I'm not in the mood to deal with your shit." His words were calm for the most part, but some anger and annoyance could be heard as he spoke. This anger and annoyance also bled through his attempts to keep a calm expression on his face. At least he wasn't turning into a wolf. Not yet, anyways.

Calm. Right. Calm down. She just wanted to get back to her dorm right now, and the last thing she needed was to get dragged back to the Headmaster's office. They weren't too happy about what had happened in New York, or the dozen or so other fights she'd gotten involved in lately... including smashing her roommate's face into the cafeteria counter right in front of the head Autumn prefect. Right here, in the middle of the courtyard, it'd be just her luck if some prefects or Guardians came swooping in to put her down. Kayla recognized the other girl from the soccer game. Aspen Reyes, her team captain. She didn't take any deep breaths, but for a second, she stepped back, trying to swallow her anger.

As long as Montare backed down, then she could just leave.

He didn't back down.

Without even looking at him, without even thinking, Kayla instinctively reached out her hand and pressed her palm against his chest. A quarter of a million volts of electricity coursed out to propel Montare Lupo backwards through the air like a ragdoll.

Kayla pulled back her hand and glanced at Aspen, blinking. "Sorry. This guy annoys me."

She thought she recognized her from somewhere - the first person she picked to be on her team, for obvious reasond. Aspen had heard that Kayla had the rare gift of controlling lightning so putting her on the team would be a no-brainer. Still that didnt explain why both of the two were brusied up like they were in some bloody battle. The autumn blinked slightlt confused, glancing over towards the other dude who she never has seen in her entire school year. "uh but it sounded like you were the one picking the fi--" She was cut off, Kayla had zapped the boy clear too the sky with her gift. Aspen was completely shocked she never knew that lightning can do that and she didnt even look fazed by it. Truly amazing gift...

She was a bit lost for words as she said something the autumn blinked before glancing back towards Kayla an eyebrow slightly raising. She didnt want too be mean, it was obvious she was short tempered and she didnt want too push her nerves even further... The situation was already getting out of hand and Aspen wouldnt be able too do anything, she was good at fighting but she would never end up attacking someone from the academy. The summer tournament was different thats because it was fake and all the injures as well but Kayla attacked him with real lightning.. "Uhhhh..." She was a bit lost for words but she soon came to her mind when she saw another student. "Just dont zap him again, pleaseeeeeeeeee" She should probably call Magic tell him to come over but now shed try to handle this herself. Standing still she glanced over at Cassandra concern in her violet eyes, "The dude alive?"

Montare was silent and motionless for a few moments, before a groan came from him. A hole in his shirt and an electrical burn both in the shape of a hand were visible on his chest. Slowly and painfully, Montare got to his feet, speaking through gritted teeth. "I-I'm fine..." Anyone looking at the situation could tell he was lying, however. He was hardly able to stand, yet that didn't stop him from causing his fingernails to become more akin to claws. The shapeshifter suddenly ran towards Kayla, although he was nowhere near as agile or quick as he would normally be. The expression on his face also gave away the pain he was in thanks to the burn on his chest, which was pretty severe and would have to be taken care of. Unfortunately, it looked as if he was only going to get hurt even more before that happened.

Kayla slipped the hand into her pocket, tilting her head. That was a bit of a weak reaction to watching everyone's least favorite werewolf get blown back three yards, but she wasn't complaining. "I won't, I won't," she sighed, closing one eye. She'd already done too much. Right now, it would be best to get the hell out of here before somebody let a prefect know. The last thing she wanted was a halt to her Guardian training because of a stupid skirmish.

The contents of the letter still rung clear in her mind.

'We know who you are.
We know what you fear.
Come out and play.'

It left a bad taste in her mouth, but she had something real to focus on now. Something other than petty fights and shove-ins. Kayla let the plastic convenience store bag fall to her side. Electricity flickered out from her bangs to show her irritation. He started it by getting in her way. That was good enough of a reason to zap him. "Honestly, it's not my fault this asshole—..."

Montare came charging toward her with nails like claws. She never finished her sentence, or even took her hand out of her pocket, just stomped her foot onto his toes and shot her knee into his gut with enough force to make him double over.

Kayla stepped back a pace, a dark expression flitting across her features, and slammed her elbow down on the back of his head. The bag swung around in her hand like a pendulum. No zapping him, got it. A promise was a promise. But Aspen had never said anything about this.

Aspen scratched the back of her head forcing out a small nervous laugh. "Oooh haha Glad you're um feeling better!" Aspen said with a smile a bit surprised that the guy could even stand, in her opinion he shouldnt be alive. Since she'd been spending alot of time with Magic lately Aspen had started picking up his habbits like how he would rub or scratch his head and smile stupidly whenever he became nervous. The autumn wasn't really paying attention too Mountare as he was transforming into some freaky wolf thing, she was instead trying too laugh off her anxiety before sighing in relief. "Annnyway, glad you're feeling okaaay but you should probably go to the in---" The autumn let out a surprised yelp as something had sped past her, she quickly had fell onto her bottom only to watch in utter surprise too see it was Mountare or whoever.

An eyebrow slightly rose, 'Is this the freak Vincent talked about?' Quickly rising too her feet hoping to hell, she was shocked yet again when Kayla had pratically pummeled him with his fists. An eye had twitched and her smile had wavered. "Heh... Well I uh.. heh" Rubbing the back of her head she felt her hand twitch. 'Oh gosh she sure is brutal' She stuffed her hands quickly into her pockets before she glanced at Cassandra a complete stumped look on Aspens face. "HUUUUH? me do something? Why not you?! You are invincible in your diamond state arent you??" Aspen wasn't really sure what too do anyways, looking at Kayla it was obvious that she was going somewhere and was becoming more impaitent. "Hey Kayla why dont you go where you need to go and Cassandra will take him too the infirmary" The autumn said with a smile as she winked at the Cassandra.

A few seconds after Monty had gotten to where Kayla was standing, he was on the ground again. The pained groans coming from him and his feeble, unsuccessful attempts at trying to get back to his feet again were indication enough that he wasn't going to be putting up any fight at this point. While the pain from the burn on his chest alone may not have been able to keep him down, that combined with being kneed before being struck on his back was. Montare hoped that this would be the end of this little fight, as his already slim chance of winning was now reduced to nothing. He intended to try to get to the infirmary, given how nothing but bad could come from leaving the burn he'd received untreated. Again Montare tried to to get up, slowly managing to start to rise into a sort of crouch, planning to flee once he could get standing.

Kayla kicked him down again as crawled into a crouch. Going where she needed to go... That's what she'd been planning, but Montare had put an end to all that. The diamond girl, the team captain, neither mattered to her right now. "You really are pathetic," she muttered in a flat tone, stomping a foot onto his burned chest. Kicking someone like this around felt like kicking a puppy.

Nothing felt sweeter than a defeated enemy. Beating them into nothing, stripping away their pride, overcoming their strength. There was a primal thrill in inflicting pain on another person. Holding someone's life in your hands was like... well, like playing God. That was what a god was in the end, after all. The power of life and death. "I could incinerate you right now if I wanted to. It'd be easier than squishing a bug." There were others watching, but right now, she didn't care. "If killing someone is controlling their fate, and if your entire life's lead up to this moment, then it'd be like you were born to be killed by me."

She gave him a small, bitter grin and stepped off of him, walking past the other two girls in attendance. Did they enjoy the show? "But I can't really waste the time to do something like that. Do I look like a murderer to you?" Plus, her bed was waiting. "See ya. Watch where you're walking next time."

The blonde let out a loud irritated sigh, this situation was becoming even more dire thanks to Cassandra. Did she just have too start this? another fight while someone was pretty much on the floor with a burnt chest. Violet eyes glanced over back too Mountare, in her opinion the dude deserved it she had heard nasty rumors and he was a big problem at the party a few days ago. How did Aspen know? Because she heard screaming and cursing about this dude she didnt even get a wink of sleep. "Cassandra just cut it out will you?" Aspen didnt really lose her temper too quickly but this was getting annoying even for her. "Just save you're breath, deal with her later I couldn't care less - but we should probably take this guy too the infirmary don't you think??" Aspen had said glancing over towards Mountare, one thing she didnt understand was why he would even provoke Kayla even more, guess he was as stupid as everyone said.

The autumn blinked slightly raising an eyebrow as Kayla had walked past them, of corse she would have too tell the headmaster about this but for now this dude was the first priority. It would be stupid if he got injured again just because Cassandra was trying too pick a fight with Kayla. The worst part about it was that Cassandra was a little bit too over-confident, her ego was double the size of her and she wasnt the brightest diamond.. Violet eyes rolled, at her words. "She can say sorry later."

The plastic bag went falling out of her fingers as Cassandra snatched her hand in an iron grip.

She turned her head to look at the other girl for the first time. Her skin had turned into a translucent crystal, almost like ice, as cold and hard as stone. It was funny how you missed that kind of thing in a place like this. The sunlight caught in her skin and gave her a blinding radiance, a glow that made her skin shimmer like water with every shift of light, but here at Beata she was just another girl in the background.

Kayla had her own glow. Bluish-white ripples of electricity flashed down her body with a quiet hum on the edge of hearing. She could feel and see the strength in that diamond coating, and right now, her arm felt like kindling in Cassandra's bruising grip. Punches and kicks would be useless, and so would weapons even if she used one. But her other hand... She didn't move it from her pocket, just wrapped her fingers around an arcade coin. Really, having to rely on these things so much lately was starting to make her feel pathetic. Her power on its own should be enough for most people.

There was a cold anger burning in Cassandra's eyes, and despite the dazzling glow, Kayla made sure to meet her glare. Nobody threatened her. Nobody told her what to do. Nobody walked all over her. "Glass girl," she said in a hushed tone. Blue sparks reflected in her eyes as small flickers of electricity leaped out from her bangs. "Do you want to see how fast you shatter?"

Louis had gotten some books from the library and decided to find a quiet place to read. As he entered the courtyard he saw two people fighting. He dropped the books and ran towards them, standing in between and pushing them away from each other. "Stop it!" he yelled, always trying to help.
