Spring is in the Air

Birds chirped and chased each other from Mother Goddess to Mother Goddess. Flowers were blossoming, opening up to flaunt their vivid colors to the world. Sunlight beamed down, glistening on the grass and warming the air to a comfortable temperature, making it a perfect day to spend outside. It was a lazy day; one could spread a blanket out and lay down, take a nap, or read a book. However, it was also the perfect day to practice.

Kaylee took the opportunity to have some fun. She had done this when she first discovered her gift, messing with her friends and her family by being in two rooms at once. She had always freaked them out, before her parents became serious about the whole situation. Here, however, here she was encouraged to practice and broaden her ability.

Several of her fellow peers were taking walks or sitting near the fountain. Concentrating, Kaylee split herself into two separate people. She shared a mischievous grin with herself before walking out, one of her, to walk past a few people sitting on the edge of the fountain.
"Hello!" she greeted as she walked by. After walking by once, she turned a corner to wait for her doppelganger. Her second self did the same exact motion, baffling the small group of people by the fountain. Once around the corner, Kaylee's two selves high-fived before morphing back into one person again.

"Nice power." Came a voice. A girl, leaning against the edge of the fountain, was watching her. Her pink hair was put up in a high pony tail and moved as the wind brew through it. Her bright green eyes sparked with amusement as she pushed off the side of the fountain into a standing position, nodding to the group of people who the other girl had just walked by. "Do you do that often?"

Kaylee started. She hadn't noticed the girl there, and now felt a bit guilty. But she was just having a bit of fun. It wasn't harming anybody, right?
"Um, usually at home," she finally answered. "But yeah, I do it quite often." The girl shifted uncomfortably, glancing at her feet.

Emily nodded slightly, looking over to the girl once again. "It's a pretty good power." Emily told her. She took a small step towards the girl; she didn't want too scare her away. "My name is Emily, by the way."

Kaylee smiled, although she was still slightly suspicious.
"Kaylee," she replied. "And yeah, I guess it is. So, uh, what's yours?"

She wasn't sure if it was just her, or if the sun had become increasingly hot. She felt sweaty and uncomfortable, as though she were under a bright interrogation light. But this girl hadn't shown any violent or angry tendencies; she was being friendly. There was no need to worry, Kaylee kept telling herself.

"Psychokinesis. If I ever learn to control it, I'll be able to pick up and object and shape them into something else. All I can do right now is throw things." Emily told her. The girl seemed scared, as if this conversation was making her nervous. In fear to scare the girl away, Emily stepped back. "Are you alright?" she asked, her voice soft.

"Oh, sorry, no, I'm fine," Kaylee answered, smiling openly. Perhaps she should be more careful with how she acts... "That's a pretty cool gift. When did you discover it?" The girl clasped her hands in front of herself, bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet.

Emily frowned at the memory; it wasn't one she enjoyed thinking about..at all. She struggled to keep her usually calm smile on her face as she answered her question. "I'd say when I was around 5 or so. I..was throwing a temper tantrum, and my mom tried to walk over and pick me up, to put me in a different room I guess. She never made it to me though; I ended up throwing her against the wall."

Immediately, Kaylee regretted having asked. She shifted her weight back and forth and bit her lip before continuing.
"I'm sorry I asked," she said softly, feeling her cheeks burn slightly. It didn't seem like the best question to ask anybody. The girl resolved to not ask anybody that question again; if they ever became friends, then they could tell her if they wanted. Looking back up, she asked a better question. "Do you like it here?" Or at least, she hoped it was better.

The smile on Emily's face became more relaxed when they changed topics. " I've liked it here so far. I've met some pretty....self centered people, though. How about you?" Emily asked her.

The brunette shrugged in response.
"I haven't really met many people yet," Kaylee answered. "I like it so far, though. It's very nice and comfortable."

Emily nodded; she understood. Though she's been outside of the dorms and in the open for most of her time here, she hadn't met many people either. "So uhm, what do you like to do, other than mess with people's minds by making them think they're seeing double?" she asked, trying to keep the conversation going.

Kaylee moved over to the brick edge of the fountain, hopping up backwards to sit on it. Her toes touched the ground, and she sat with her arms directly beside her, not bent at all.
"I enjoy music," she told Emily. "It means a lot to me, and I love listening to or creating it."

"You create it?" Emily asked, giving her a curious look. She herself loved music, but never was able to get enough creative vibes to try and make a song. "Are you good at it?"

Kaylee cringed slightly, a nervous smile replacing her relaxed one.
"I'm all right," she told Emily, although she shook her head. "How about you? What do you like to do for fun?"
