Basking in the Sun [Open] Empty
PostSubject: Basking in the Sun [Open]   Basking in the Sun [Open] EmptyMon Jul 18, 2016 7:22 pm

Thomas was lying on the grass in the large courtyard, enjoying the beautiful cloudless day and the slight breeze that ruffled his hair and clothes. He'd just been sorted into the Summer house, which was fitting, given his gift. He had his arms crossed behind his head and his eyes closed. The Summer took a deep sigh of contentedness. He loved being outside, he couldn't stand being indoors all the time. As he laid there, he listened to the birds chirping and leaves rustling. He was surprised that there was no one else around, especially on a day like the one he was experiencing. "Where is everyone..?" he muttered lazily.

"Come on, you piece of shit, work!" Declan's voice rang out as he stormed through the courtyard while staring down at his phone, anger written all over his face. He'd been having a lot of issues with it lately and this was finally the last straw. With a furious yell, he quickly threw it down, a loud crack! followed by shattered glass raining across the concrete sidewalk. He was very much done with this place. He hated everything about it so far. There was no one to help him with anything, he had no friends here, and he still couldn't let go of the fact that he had gotten his butt beaten into the dirt during the summer tournament. He still couldn't get over the fact that his mother had forced him to come here. He saw no point to it.

After staring down at the broken phone lying in pieces on the ground, he sighed and took a look around. A scowl crossed his face as his eyes landed on the boy not too far away from where he was. Thankfully, he seemed to be the only other one out here right now. That was a plus. He didn't want the whole school seeing him throw a fit. He'd only become even more of a laughing stock at this point.

Thomas looked up to see a boy throwing down his phone and yelling. Not noticing the large scowl the boy held on his face, the Summer got up and headed over to him. "Are you getting terrible service here too? I was hoping it wasn't just me." he said, completely ignoring the shattered phone. "Oh! My name's Thomas, before we get too far into this conversation." He smiled as he ran a hand through his hair and stuck out the other one for the boy to shake.

Declan only watched as Thomas got up and walked towards him, commenting on the terrible phone service. The spring had opened his mouth to say something but quickly shut it when the summer held his hand out to shake it. Instead of reciprocating, Declan only glared at the unfamiliar boy in front of him before crossing his arms. "Declan. What do you want?" he asked sharply. He didn't want to fool with this right now.

Thomas was taken aback by Declan's attitude. He smiled nervously and messed with his hair. "I was just trying to lighten the mood. You seem a little pissed off at your phone." He wondered if the boy was always like this or if it was just because of his phone that he was acting this way. He hoped it was the latter. "Anyways, if you hadn't smashed your phone, I could've taken a look at it. I'm pretty good at technology." he said, "And if nothing I tried worked to fix it, I melt it with the power of the Sun." he gave a short laugh, hoping that he didn't upset Declan further.

With an exaggerate sigh mixed with a grumble, Declan rolled his eyes and looked back at the phone in pieces on the ground. For a second, the boy didn't think that he could get anymore frustrated at the device until just now when this kid said he could help. Of course he just had to say something after Declan had already smashed it on the ground. He couldn't have said something sooner. It was pretty obvious that the spring was walking through the courtyard. Why couldn't Thomas have spoken up? "Gah, damn it!" he fussed, throwing his hands up in the air before bringing them down across his face while his foot stomped the concrete underneath them. "Well, obviously it's too late now! Why didn't you tell me that earlier? It would have saved both of us a lot more time..." With another deep breath, he tried to calm down. "If you still want to go and melt it with the power of the sun, you are more than welcome to. I'm done with it. I'll have to order another one. Hopefully it can get here tomorrow."

"You should try Amazon's One-Day Shipping. It's pretty neato. You have to have Prime though." he joked. Picking up the smashed phone, he put on hand over it and concentrated, closing his eyes. A soft glow could be seen in between his hands and soon Declan's old phone was a melted mess, smoldering slightly. He let out a deep breath, slightly light-headed. His power drained him, even on a sunny day like this. "Ta da! Phone a la Sun. On the house." he added, showing the boy the gooey mess that was his old phone.

"Ugh..." Declan sighed dramatically as he rolled his eyes at Thomas's comment. How could he still be so happy? It was a little weird. As Declan had calmed down, he realized that he kind of sounded a bit like a jerk but still this boy was standing there with a big smile on his face even as he picked up the broken phone and focused on it. It was frustrating to watch how unfazed he was but Declan couldn't help but watch him do his thing. When the phone melted and Thomas held it out to Declan, he was inwardly impressed but he didn't show it. Instead, he crossed his arms and huffed. "Whoop dee-fucking-doo..." he grumbled. "You can control the sun. Great! If you're so good at it, why don't you go... make some plants grow or something?" He really couldn't think of anything better and his face flushed at the sound of how stupid that was, but Thomas's cheerfulness was starting to get on his nerves.

Thomas dully registered the fact that Declan was getting frustrated but he didn't really care. He was just having some fun. "You know, I've tried that. Doesn't work since I don't control plants, but it never hurts to try." he replied. "I could give you a nasty sunburn though." The smile never left his face as he not-so-lowkey threatened Declan.

Declan's eyes narrowed at Thomas for just a second as confusion then irritation then wariness flashed across his face. "Is that supposed to be a threat?" he asked even though he was sure he had the answer, and in all honesty, he had no idea how to respond. The smile that Thomas continued to wear quickly became just a little bit weirder. Was he actually going to try to fight him right now or is the whole thing a bluff? Declan knew he wasn't ready for any kind of fight, especially after he got his ass handed to him by Janya. Obviously, though, he wasn't going to admit that to this kid.

Thomas shrugged. "More of a promise, to be precise." he replied. "But we can squabble over terminology another time." He realized that he still had Declan's phone in his hand and he pulled it back. The boy guessed he didn't want it. Just then his stomach grumbled. Melting the phone must've taken more out of him than he thought. "Well, that's the sign that I need something to eat. Sorry to disappoint, but I guess your sunburn is going to have to wait. I can't use my gift on an empty stomach. I can treat you to a snack though. As long as it isn't too expensive, of course." he told the irritated boy.

Basking in the Sun [Open] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Basking in the Sun [Open]   Basking in the Sun [Open] EmptyThu Aug 25, 2016 5:21 pm

There was a hint of relief when Thomas had mentioned that the sunburn would have to wait. The tension that had risen in Declan's body finally released in a bit of a shaky fashion before he rolled his eyes to try to conceal just how nervous he had seemed to get without even realizing it himself. But after almost a minute of silence from the spring, the confusion started creeping back. Raising an eyebrow and cocking his head, Declan finally couldn't help but be curious about what this guy's deal was. "How... How do you do that? How can you sit there and threaten me like that and then invite me for a snack?" For only a split second, the spring wanted a legitimate answer but after the words had come out of his mouth, he simply stopped. "Y-You know what? Forget it," he said, waving his hand down in front of him dismissively. "I'm good on the snacks. And you can keep the phone mess. I'm out of here..." With a soft grumble, Declan turned on his heel and began heading in the opposite direction, not really knowing how to feel after that whole encounter. He was left confused and almost dazed from the sheer amount of passive aggressiveness that radiated off the other boy.
