"Don't look so bitchy about it," she snapped as he left, smirking once she had the whole place to herself. Perfect. It was pretty cozy in here. Kayla ran her hands over the blankets, and then lounged back across the pillows, still warm from where he'd been laying. Yeah. She could get used to this. It was better than just lying across the couch in the dark, wasn't it?

Soon as Preston finished him, he patted his hands dry and licked the light shut. It took no time to step back inside the tent, crouching lower to avoiding hitting the Christmas strings. "You fucker," He scoffed with a crooked grin, raising an eyebrow. "Move the fuck over." He crawled closer over to the pile of blankets, pausing a mere foot away.

She raised an eyebrow as he came back in. "Hell no," she shot back, nestling in deeper into the pillows in defiance. He hadn't called any sort of dibs, so it was free game. Those were the rules. That's how it worked. Fair was fair was fair. Electricity flickered out from her bangs. "How about you make me, bitch?" she drawled lazily, slipping her good hand underneath her head and resting her cast on her stomach.

His ocean-like eyes narrowed away at her. For a brief moment, he thought back to the tournament. Was that a fucking challenge? Because like hell he'd lose to her again, on his own God damned birthday tent of all places. No matter how much he'd bullshitted on the side making it. Preston reached his hand forward. "Have it your way," a few sparks crackled out of his hand and a brief force tugged away at her leg; not enough to send her flying, but enough to get an iron grip on her ass. He tugged away at her, shoving her aside, and squirming his way back into his rightful spot. Or at least trying to.

A challenge... maybe. But she hadn't been expecting a fight out of him, for whatever dumb reason she had in her head, until he was pulling her across the floor by the leg. Electricity burst out from out her shoulders as she flailed, helpless, not able to squirm out of his grip. "Hey! Dick!" Damn it... She'd just been trying to get comfy. He settled down back in her spot, but she wasn't going to let it go that easy. Kayla snatched up a small pillow with her good hand, and sitting on her knees a foot away from him, smacked it lightly across his face. "Ass. That's my spot."

He sunk, snuggling back into his rightful place and trying to kick his legs forward for maximum comfiness. It might've been possible if Kayla hadn't been so adamant on keeping her ass in the way. Instead of simply just giving up his spot, she made it clear was wanting in order. Preston threw up a hand quick, flinching away as the pillow smacked against him. "Bitch!" With a sharp, determined glare, he reached for the closest pillow, grabbing the end and swinging it back at her.

Kayla threw her arm up to block, but the soft blow still almost managed to bowl her backwards. "Hey!" She wasn't strong enough to pull him away, maybe not even to roll him over, but she wasn't going to give up here. Even with one hand, she wouldn't let him steal it. It was just out of stubbornness than anything else.

She threw her weight forward, throwing the pillow over his face like she was trying to sm̶ǫther him, edging her knee into his side and trying to dig it under his back. Damn it...!

Fuck, maybe he had hit her harder than he had meant to, but that was what she just fucking deserved after high jacking his spot in the first place. He'd been expecting some more bullshit thrown back at him, but he hadn't for seen her coming to suffocate him with the whole God damned pillow. "The fuck are you doing?" He felt himself reflexly scooting away as she dug her knee under him. There was no way in hell he was giving up so easily. Preston grabbed at her wrist, trying to find another decent place to grab other than her cast and pushing past her weaponized cushion.

"Moving your fat ass!" she retorted, straining against his push as he clasped her good wrist, her other hand held uselessly behind her. Gritting her teeth, she pushed her knee forward, as if to roll him over, leaning forward to leverage his arm the other way, but... "Gah!" Kayla spilled partially over, dropping the pillow unceremoniously over his face and chest again as it slipped from her grasp, leaning over his body. No fair.

He grit his teeth as she fought on, fighting him off and making a mess out of the blankets begone something seemingly gave out, and the pillow plopped softly back down on him. Preston could make out where she leaned awkwardly over him and spared no time in thinking shit through. He lifted his head, knocking the pillow aside and wrapped his arms around her before she had the chance to squirm away. "Bitch, I win." Preston declared, drawing her in closer with a stupid smile. She couldn't exactly do shit now, could she...? Don't answer that.

"Hwagh!" she yelped, all her resistance leaving her limbs once he wrapped his arms around her in a crushing bear hug. Sneak attack! "Fucker!" she wheezed. There wasn't anything she could do except squirm feebly in his grasp, pressed against his chest. Kayla gave up with a groaning sigh, letting her head rest down, face buried in his shirt. He was warm, and she could hear his heartbeat. "Fine," her muffled voice rose up in a murmur, "you win." Forget all the tough talk before, that kind of horsing around was too exhausting with a broken hand and a stomach full of brownies and ice cream. He could have the god damn spot. Happy?

At those three, small words, Preston’s face lit up in triumph. She might have had him beat in the tournament, in his x-box games, hell; even in Fort making skills, but the young man had this one, dumb thing over her - the confused spot in the God damned tent. His arms loosened up ever-so-slightly, still holding that stupid smile, still pulling her close to him. "About time you see shit my way," He muttered, his biting words empty. Pres let himself relax back, sinking into the pillows and gazing down at the girl hiding away into his chest. The way she'd felt laying on him, it felt familiar and tiring. Maybe that was why he didn't feel like moving her, instead nudging his arm around to accompany her a bit better. She made a good blanket

She didn't raise her head, or move at all, just sighing when he loosened up on his grip. "Don't sound so smug," she shot back. Yeah, so she'd let him have this one, but he wasn't allowed to push it. Too much shit-talking and she'd change her mind. Kayla shifted on top of him, too tired to try and fight out of his grip, and besides, it was kinda comfy. Next best thing to the pillows, whatever. She turned her head, resting it against his chest, and shut her eyes, the pout still clear on her face even if she'd stopped her grumbling. Fucker.

'Kayla, you fucking idiot.'

Preston did his best to hold back a modest chuckle. "Smug?" He murmured under his breath, staring at the lights hanging above them. They seemed to flickered at every spark that went off between them, slight as it was. "Don't know what the hell you're talking about." He was suddenly paranoid to move, or hesitant to even breathe, as if he made one wrong slight and she'd been flying clear to the other end of the fort.

Even though he couldn't see her face, he still found himself staring.

Her hair was a disaster, and she was still bruised and beat up to all fucking hell and back again, but damn - if she didn't look...

Whatever. He knew exactly what she was talking about. Kayla shifted her head, mumbling a quiet shutup under her breath, listening to the drone of electricity. When she thought about it, it was a weird place to lie down, but something about this felt normal. She was deaf to the sparks overhead, but she couldn't ignore that buzz she got in the core of her stomach when they were close like this, an electric frequency that made the hair rise on the back of her neck and quickened her heartbeat. All the blue currents snaking around her body seemed to fizzle into nothing the moment they pulled in too close to him, dissipating into ticklish scurrying across her skin.

It all felt f͘a͝m͟iliar̨.

Kayla glanced up at him, her eyes flicking open again, meeting his eyes for a heartbeat too long. They were a cool blue-green that reminded her of the sea, reminded her of home. She cracked a soft smile that just touched the corners of her lips. "What the fuck are you looking at?"

She didn't need him rubbing it in.
