Beata Academy is a school in rural North Dakota for gifted students aged 13-18. The academy itself is nestled in between scenic mountains and bordered by a small community similarly full of supernatural men and women, most of them graduates with their own families now.
Powers, or gifts, are a strange phenomenon that are usually described as supernatural. These powers are genetic and unique from family to family, and mutate into something new in children with two gifted parents. So far nobody has been born with more than one gift, although there have been claims. The four elemental powers (i.e. pyrokinesis, chlorokinesis, hydrokinesis, & aerokinesis) are especially rare, and are speculated to be the original gifts from which other powers branched off and mutated from. Because the existence of these gifts are kept a closely guarded secret from the outside world, there is little study on how these gifts function.
Beata itself is the only academy of its kind in North America and is widely regarded as a haven for gifted children. It was said to have been founded on the commonly held belief that a person's gift is most easily shaped and trained during adolescence, but the school's origins are much darker than just that.
Many years ago, under the school's original Headmaster, the Academy was a much more brutal and rigid place where deaths and disappearances weren't uncommon. It was later discovered that the Headmaster had been harvesting students for their gifts through a complicated and arduous scientific process, killing them in the process, with varied results. He was thwarted by rebelling students, and his frozen wife and daughter were released.
The school has since expanded and reformed twenty years later. Its current Headmaster, Nathaniel Wright, was one of the leading students who helped overthrow Headmaster Rivers. However, there are dark rumors of black-suited men and women attacking gifted communities, and as time goes on, the more it's proven that not everything is as safe and simple as Beata Academy would hope... | |
