| Evelyn forlornly tapped a worn out soccer ball with her foot. It tumbled along the wet grass only a foot before it slowed to a halt and sunk a little into the mud. She sighed and tapped it again, repeating the process. The weather was downright miserable, as expected. Too warm for snow, so a light sprinkle of rain was falling instead, driving most other students inside. That was a plus, at least. Even if her uniform and hair ended up sodden and her shoes got ruined by the mud, at least she didn't have to deal with the noisy residence hall.
The overcast sky reflected her mood best. The day had gone terribly in so many different ways she couldn't even begin to recall. The concealed dagger pressed its cold metal against her leg, nagging and calling to her. She only sighed and tapped the ball again, watching as it flattened the grass before it as it trundled quietly a couple feet down to midfield. It was an ugly old ball, stained by grass and dirt, with the leather and stitching appearing to be coming apart. Evelyn caught up with it and kicked again, harder this time. Stupid ball. she thought. Stupid field. Stupid rain. Stupid school. Everything is stupid. | |
