Jailed [OPEN]

Beata leered at her, taunted her. It stood imposing on the skyline, a great, ancient, looming brick building, with tall dark windows and heavy oaken doors. The facade reminded her forcibly of a prison. My prison, Kayla remembered with a smirk. The pompous iron gates had clanged shut behind her. Now I'm stuck in here. With them. Or maybe they're stuck in here with me. She snapped her fingers, letting out blue sparks that popped and crackled in the air. A little reminder to herself, as to why she was here.

There wasn't much choice but to move forward. With a long sigh, Kayla stuffed her hands in her pockets and ambled forward, breathing in the crisp, clean morning air. I'm already bored.

Emelia had been out for a walk, enjoying the now warm weather as the sun hit her skin. She was in her element here finally, now that winter was over and everything started heating up. She absolutely hated America in the winter, but now things were actually quiet nice.
The green eyed girl sat on the edge of the fountain and idly watched the water, her legs crossed as the light spray from the water cooled her off. As she sat there, she noticed the iron gates of the entrance opening and closing with a loud rattle. Curious, she spotted a girl looking at the large Beata building. The girl snapped, and blue electricity crackled from her fingers. Thinking that she might help the girl out, Emelia jumped off the fountain and made her way over to the girl. "Ello, do you need any help, or perhaps just company?" She asked with a smile, sticking her hands into the pockets of her shorts. Though she had been surrounded by American accents, a couple phone calls with her mum every week kept her Australian accent thick.

The voice, an Australian voice, made her blink in surprise and look down to the girl in front of her. She was around a head taller, with grass green eyes and light brown hair that fell to her shoulders. The accent caught her attention more than her looks. Bumfuck Nowhere, North Dakota, was the last place she expected to hear a foreigner. It was all fields and mountains and forests, just about as far as you could get from any major city in any direction. She supposed that was the point, but she'd been under the impression it was just all cowboys and militias. Do I look that helpless? Kayla paused in her tracks and stood, rocking on the soles of her feet and slouching forward. "Why?" she asked, almost leering, with her lopsided grin not fading off her face. "Are you an escort service?"

Emelia wasn't oblivious to the girl's expression, but like most things, she chose to ignore it. She shrugged, her hands still in her pockets as she smiled tentatively. "Might as well be." After all, she enjoyed showing new kids around. Ever since she figured Beata out herself, she didn't see why she shouldn't help out others as well.
"I know that when I got here, I didn't have the faintest idea what was going on." She laughed lightly, before pausing in thought. Biting at her bottom lip, she quickly added, "Of course, if you'd rather me get lost and leave you alone, I wouldn't take it personally."

Did her little taunt go over her head, or was she playing along? Kayla gave her a contemplative look, biting on the inside of her cheek. "Hmm." This wasn't exactly the start to Beata she was expecting. She shrugged. "What's there to understand? Superpowers, school, monsters..." she listed, throwing up a finger with each word. All that had been told to her, but being perfectly honest, Kayla had hardly listened. So she could control lightning and they were packing her off to a school in the middle of nowhere, who the hell cared about the science behind it all? "I think I'll be fine, Aussie. But if you wanna show me around, feel free."

Counting off her fingers, Emelia added, "Drama, math homework, almost dying, etcetera." It really was just like most schools, aside from everyone having powers and it being a wanna be version of Hogwarts. Completely normal, really.
Shrugging nonchalantly, Emelia looked almost crestfallen. "Well, it's just that I know that when I first got here I had no idea where I was going... And I don't want you to get lost, because that would really suck on your first day of school, which normally sucks in general, especially when you kinda just show up in the middle of the year- I'm gonna shut up now."

Yeah, yeah, but who cared about all that, anyway? Kayla sighed under her breath, tapping her foot impatiently with one hand still in her pocket as the girl rambled on and on and on and... "Yeah, yeah, yeah," Kayla cut in right after, with an exasperated edge to her voice. Jeez, the look on her face. Did it really mean that much to her, to give some random  tour?

"Math, history, English..." She raised her hand in the air in front of her, counting off again and throwing up another finger with each word. The air seemed to crackle, and then blue beams of electricity seemed to zap into existence, connecting each finger like wires. Sparks ran excitedly up and down the length of her bare arm. "But this is the only thing that matters, right? I can sit around daydreaming in Algebra in any normal school. As long as I'm better than everybody else with this... " Kayla lowered all her fingers except one and pointed it to the fountain. The sparks seemed to rush up her hand and finger, gathering in a sphere at the tip of her nail. "Then who's gonna care how lost I get, or how late I joined?"

She snapped, making a sound like a gunshot, and the sphere shot off the tip of her finger like a rocket. There was a great splash, and the electrified droplets fell down like rain on the whole courtyard. Kayla adjusted her hat as it showered down, looking unperturbed, and strolled past again towards the heavy oaken doors guarding Beata's offices. "See ya, Oz."

Sebastian sat on a bench opposite the fountain with his sketchbook on his lap and headphones over his ears. Okay, it's time to get this done! he told himself as he began to draw out plans for his next couple of designs rapidly. Only five minutes had passed before something brought his productivity to a halt. After he had seen to first droplet of water land on his paper, the blonde haired boy sprung into action. He tried desperately to cover his book and his supplies with his coat that he'd brought, but not before the aforementioned items retained their fair share of water.
The teen looked to the sky, although not seeing a single cloud. But when he looked around the area he spotted two girls standing across the way. One of them is bound to have done it, cocky hotshot! he thought to himself. "Hey! What the hell was that!?" This wasn't typically like him, to start picking fights with strangers, but they had interfered with his work and that, in his mind, was worth fighting for.

Kayla stopped in her tracks. Underneath the shadow of her cap, her smile turned feral. Perfect. In one fluid moment, she spun on her foot and held out an arm. Sparks buzzed at the tips of her fingers, and lightning crackled wildly around her body. "What's the matter?" she taunted, twisting her cap to the side. "Scared of a little water?" She whisked her finger in a slashing motion, and a bolt of lightning that arced and cracked in the air like a whip before disappearing in a sizzling cloud of smoke that filled the courtyard. The lingering scent of sulfur stung her nose and eyes, but it still smelled as sweet as roses. "If you want to fight about it, then I'll be happy to put the next one through you. Wouldn't want to burn all that pretty hair, though."

Sebastian gritted his teeth in frustration at her taunting. Would I even stand a chance?! the doubt crossed his mind, though only for a second; it was soon replaced by more jeering voices from his past. Well, I guess there's only one way to find out! he told himself.
Needles dangling by floating threads and multicolored knitting needles found their way to his side. "Two can play at that game..." he said with a smirk on his face. He had a small voice in the back of his mind telling him this was a horrible idea, but he also knew that this may be to only time he has the willingness too stand up for himself...or the physical capability...

Emelia didn't know how to react. This girl was so... Self centered, rude, and... Who was she calling Oz anyway? Everything she did upsetted Em, and after she tried so hard to be nice, too! She was nice to everyone... People liked her! Why didn't this girl like her? She frowned, crossing her arms, and was prepared to give the girl a piece of her mind, before she was interrupted by someone else. Looking shocked for a moment, she put her hands out in front of her and was prepared to assure the person that it wasn't her whenever the rude girl took the blame. Was she seriously asking for a fight? Really?

"Hey, there's really no need to fight..." She said, but there was little force in her voice as she was a bit scared of the two preparing to go at it right in front of the school. Without really realizing it, she took a few steps back from what was surely to be a fight.

Kayla raised an eyebrow, watching something small, thin, and silver glint in the sunlight... She choked back laughter when the realization hit her. "Are those sewing needles?" she asked. Who the hell carried knitting needles around with them anyways? "Well, alright then, fruitcake. But I hope you know what happens to metal around electricity." Five minutes at her new school and she was already getting into a fight. That was just perfect for her. Kayla whipped her hand lazily in front of her, and with a loud zap!, sent wild bolts of lightning streaking through the air. "Get me if you can!"

Electricity? That's her thing?! he thought to himself as he watched the blue streaks dance on her fingers. Sebastian scowled as she called him a fruitcake; he'd always hated taunting, especially since he could never defend himself. But not anymore!
With the motivating thought pushing him on, the blonde boy sent his weapons of choice toward the other girl. Of course he knew he could come up with something better (well, anything would've been better at this point...) but this was all happening so fast for him. Despite him knowing the most likely outcome to this would be most unpleasant, Sebastian knew he needed to do this for himself. No more waiting for someone else to stand up for me; I came to this school to show my parents I can be better than they think I can be!

OOC: I know he's probably going to lose miserably, but still, why not root for the underdog! ^.^

Lightning met metal in a dazzling blue explosion of electricity. When the smoke cleared, silver needles were scattered across charred bricks, and the colorful threads had been singed black. Kayla patted her mouth in a long exaggerated yawn, surrounded by wild and writhing beams of electricity. "Metal's a conductor," she explained with another wave of her hand. Sparks ran down her arm and gathered in her palm. "Which is the reason you're still standing. Electricity likes metal, and metal absorbs the impact. Like a lightning rod, get it?" The girl smirked and held out her palm, where a buzzing blue sphere was gaining shape. "Do you know how many volts are in a lightning bolt?" She didn't wait for an answer. "One billion. You really piss me off, but back off and you won't spend the rest of the year in the hospital."

Sebastian gritted his teeth as his mind raced to find a solution to this. Staying and fighting was first and foremost, but then again running was always on the table for consideration- No! he practically screamed at himself for thinking such thoughts, I've already lasted a moment with her, so why not test my luck for a bit longer...? Sebastian knew he'd be lying if he said that his last thought scared him a little.
On one hand this experience could quite possibly cost him his life, but on the other it would give him an opportunity to test his limits in the field. He had been told by others who knew about his gift that he had much potential when it came to his powers, and that made it sound like a skirmish such as this would be practically nothing in comparison. But is now a very good time to test that... or find out if this girl is bluffing? his last thought about this being a bluff was extremely laughable, even given the circumstances.
Eh, I'll figure something out as I go along... This was Sebastian's try at reassuring himself. But he also had to view coming to this school as a new beginning of sorts, since now the blonde boy could be his own person and not be hidden in his parents shadow.
He clenched his fists, knitted his eyebrows together in concentration, and awaited the practically guaranteed feeling of his ass getting handed to him.
