June's beginning

"Bye, Darlin'!" June rolled her eyes at her stepmom's stupid accent. She put a preppy, goody-goody smile on her face as she turned around and waved. "Bye, mom! Tell Daddy and Kira I said bye!" June closed the door, but the windows were still down. "Will do. Have a great time." And with that, June's stepmom drove away. She let out a tired sigh of relief as she walked through the silver gates of the school and onto the red brick path.

Her dad hadn't even bothered to drive her to school. This might seem stupid to you, but not to June. Her father was always too "busy" for her since her parents had gotten divorced. Her happpy-go-lucky stepmom insisted that she was called mom and was always up June's but. June's stepsister, Kira, was ten and evil. It was frightening. Pulling her suitcase behind her, June also carried a bag on her back and a soccer ball in her arms.

June walked over to the fountain in the middle of the area and sat down on the edge, not caring if her but got wet. She hated going here. It was Kira's fault that she was. Kira...a ten year old...had bought cigarettes and hid them in June's room. When her dad found them, June was screwed. He believed that a fifteen year old would buy cigarettes instead of a ten year old.

Music thumped in Louis's ears as he walked along, reading a magazine. He knew he shouldn't be walking and reading at the same time, so he made his way over to and leaned on a tree. Something caught his eye...a shimmer. Louis looked up and saw that it had only been the sunlight reflecting off of the water in the fountain...but sitting on the edge of the fountain was a fifteen year old girl. He smiled a bit, seeing she had a football with her. Louis took his phone from his pocket, turning off his music. He took his headphones off and put them around his neck, then closed his magazine and walked over.

"Hey, love," he said, sitting down next to the girl. He was obviously British. "You like football?" he asked. Louis gave her a charming smile before running his hand through his hair. It was time to make a new friend...a pretty friend.

Footsteps could be heard as the boy walked over. June looked up at Louis as he sat down next her her on the fountain. Did...did he just call me love? June inspected him, realizing he was British. When he asked her about football, she laughed and shook her head. "No, I play soccer." She didn't know that people in the UK and everywhere else in the world called soccer football.

June smiled at the boy. Her mom...her real mom, not stepmom...had ordered her to make friends. She assumed that she meant cute boys as well. June had been popular at her old school, but this school was different. She realized that this was her chance. "I'm June by the way, June Farmer."

Louis laughed at the girl's response. "That's what I meant. Where I come from, Soccer is called Football." his hand moved down to his snake necklace and he fiddled with it. The girl's smile was one of the loveliest he had ever seen. It was filled with hope and happiness, but yet he saw brokenness and sadness in her eyes. "I'm Louis Tomlin, a 16-year-old boy band wanna be, as some call me." He laughed, remembering back to the kid with the wired name from his first day. He remembered it began with an L, but that was it. "My gift is cloning."

"Then I do play football," she said. "But here everyone calls it soccer." June giggled and noticed Louis's cool-looking snake necklace. She was going to ask him about it, but decided not to because he started talking. "So, you like music, then. I do too." June loved listening to music and occasionally sang. "Oh and my gift is changing the colors of things...color manipulation. Here, I'll show you."

June dipped her hand in the water. The liquid changed from clear to purple slowly, starting at where her fingers were, then spreading out in a small circle around her hand. She pulled her arm back out of the water. "It's really stupid, actually. I don't see how it would help in combat. I think I make make things invisible by using it, but my gift isn't strong enough yet." 

"Woah!" Louis stared in amazement as the water changed to a purple color at the touch of June's hand. "That's a brilliant power. I do see your point about combat...I guess you'll have to be good with a weapon then." Louis stopped messing with his necklace and put his hand down at his side. "My power is hard to control. Right now, there are one or two others of me running around. If they get too far away, I get weak. To know who the real one is, just look for the Louis wearing a snake necklace."

Louis looked around at the lovely area, not knowing what to say or do. It was a bright day, and the air was fresh. He looked back at June. "So, I'm guessing you can't control what changes colors when you touch something, or what color it changes into...but can you try turning me green?" It was a rather silly and random question, but Louis wanted to freak some people out. With June, he could pull some awesome pranks.

June giggled. "I'd love to see two Louis's. Double the fun!" She turned more serious when Louis asked her to change his color. "Sorry Louis, but if I touch you, it's unknown what will happen. You will either turn a different color, be drained from color, or turn invisible. I won't be able to change you back. Sorry." The girl looked down at her reflection in the water.

"When I can control my gift more, I'll do it." June brushed a piece of hair back that was in her eyes. It turned blonde at her touch, slowly spreading out and making her whole head of hair blonde by accident. She gave Louis a smile and something inside of her wanted to ask him out. Let the boy make the first move, she thought. And plus, June wasn't confident enough to ask Louis out.

Louis made a fake pouty face. "Fine, but you have to make it up to me...a trip to Rosebury sometime would do just fine." He smiled, running his hand through his messy hair again. He stared at his own reflection in the water. He wasn't sure if he had asked her out or asked her to just join him. Something inside of him wanted it to just be a friendly thing, but the other half wanted it to be more then that. Don't be stupid, lou! You just met this girl! You can't be dating her already!

Did June just get asked out? She didn't know. Her cheecks turned red and she looked over at Louis, who was staring at his reflection. "Do I have to make it up to you?" She joked, laughing. "Alright, I'll go." June stopped for a moment. "If you buy me a coffee at the cafe there." She had heard about the cafe and thought it would be a cute little place to visit.

"Sounds like a deal then, mate," the Brit replied. He held out his hand for the girl to shake before remembering that she couldn't touch him, so he pulled it back and used it to run through his hair again. "So, uh...I guess I should get going. I'll see you tomorrow at noon to go to Rosebury, okay?" The boy stood up. "Glad we could've...uh..talked."

June smiled a little and nodded. "I better go too. Sounds good." June stood up also. "Yeah, I'm glad we could've talked also." The girl twirled a strand of her hair, causing it to slowly turn blue. She grabbed the handle of her suitcase, causing it to be drained of color and turn grey. With her other hand, June stopped twirling her hair and grabbed her soccer ball, which turned pink at her touch.

Louis nodded a good-bye to June before turning around and walking away. Did I do that right? Does she like me? Do I like her? Questions raced through Louis's head as he put on his headphones and music pounded in his ears.
