[Closed] Exploring A Library Is Supposed To Be Pleasant, Right?

Jillian pushes open the door to the library, stepping inside and hugging her arms because of the slight chill in the room. She notices a few people in the room and ducks behind the nearest shelf. Looking up, she notices a sign on the side of it that reads 'Nonfiction 0-100'. She walks down the side aisle, glancing up at the signs on occasion to lead herself to the fiction section.
Finally, Jillian reaches the fiction section. She walks down the aisle, picking up books with intriguing titles every few shelves. The calm atmosphere of the library and large selection of books absorb Jillian and she begins to ignore everything but the books in front of her. A few moments after she picks up another romance novel, her absolute favorite genre, she bumps into someone tall next to her.
Her books slip from her arms and fall to the ground with a loud thwack.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" She exclaims in a loud whisper.
Her face begins to blush as she reaches down to pick up her dropped novels. The embarrassment overcomes Jillian and she hides her face behind her long, brunette hair. She wishes she could turn invisible to save herself from this moment. She mumbles as she picks up:
"I'm so sorry...wasn't paying attention...why does this always happen..." Her sentence trails off as she focuses on picking up the books.

Sean scanned the many shelf's of books running his finger along the spines as he walked. He was playing a game. A game he developed a long time ago during breaks in school, Sean shuffled along each isle counting in his head, when he reached the number 257 he could stop and grab the book his finger was lying on. It was quite boring, but he got some good books out of it throughout the years. He was getting closer to his number slowly counting in his head, '...203, 204, 205, 206, 207...' A sudden thump in his walkway made the autumn stop, his blue eyes gazed upon a girl only a bit shorter than him.

A quite mutter escaped the girl after she bumped into him, apologizing for not paying attention. "It's fine. I didn't see you so it was probably my fault." The boy slowly dropped his hand to his side and looked down at the girls hand clearly holding a genre he enjoyed, a friendly smile appeared on his face, "So what book are you looking at?"

Jillian stands up slowly, hoisting her books in her arms. She flips her hair behind her back and looks up at the blond boy. Immediately she's struck by his clear blue eyes. For a moment she's mesmerized but she snaps back to reality quickly. Clearing her throat, she answers him shyly:
"Oh, uh, it's the Vampire Diaries; one of my favorite series," Jillian smiles sweetly, her embarrassment beginning to fade.
She begins to twirl her hair around the finger of her free hand. With a small jolt, she realizes she forgot her manners and didn't ask his name. She stops twirling her hair and extends her hand to him, saying "Uh, my name is Jillian, what's yours?"

Sean stood awkwardly leaning against the shelf, '"Oh, that sounds pretty cool. I've never been a big fan of vampires. Maybe I'll fall upon that book sometime." He mumbled the last part, not wanting to explain himself. The autumn watched the girl twirl her hair, it was clearly curled at the end and he wasn't sure if it was natural or from the constant curling she did with her fingers.

Sean also forgot about introductions until she reached out her hand, he calmly took the hand shake and responded with his name, "My name is Sean. Nice to mean you Jillian." It was a pretty name, quite unique, but Sean liked it. "I'm pretty new here. What about you?"

The moment Sean touches her hand, Jillian freezes. She totally forgot what would happen when they shook hands. Her eyes glaze over for a few moments and she stands rigid. A feeling of utter despair crashes into her like a tidal wave. Her eyes tear up and she inhales sharply at the sudden intensity. The moment is over in a matter of seconds and she relaxes, blinks away the threat of tears, and jerks her hand away from Sean.
"I-I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me," She states shakily, knowing perfectly well what happened. Jillian knows that this school is a safe place with others who will understand her powers, but she's still hesitant to reveal them to people.
She clutches her books tightly, hoping in vain he didn't notice her moment. Trying to redirect the subject, she says:
"I'm, uh, new here, just arrived a little while ago," Her eyes wander to the floor and she bites her lip nervously, waiting for Sean's response.

Sean took a small step back, not sure of what he just felt in his gut or witnessed with Jillian. When she ripped her hand away, the boy silently went back to shoving his cold hands in his jean pockets. He didn't know what took over her, but he could tell it shocked the living day lights out of her.

Sean ignored her apology for there was nothing to be sorry about. When she finished answering him the autumn immediately shot out another question, "What is your power?" Sure it was a bit fast and straight-to-the-point, but he was curious about the weird moment that just happened between the two.

She can still feel the despair that came over her when she and Sean touched; with that and her own anxiousness at the situation, she feels quite awful. Jillian wishes the encounter could've gone differently, but the damage has already been done. Tugging on her hair again, she sighs and closes her eyes momentarily before answering Sean:
"I'm, uh, I can sort of..." She trails off nervously and takes a deep breath before continuing her thought, "When I touch people, like skin-to-skin, I can kind of feel what their past was like," Jillian hesitates for a second, "Yours was... sad. Full of despair."
Looking at the floor, she releases her hair and puts her hand on top of the books in her arm, anxiously scratching lightly at the cover of the top one.

Sean waited for her answer quite patiently. It took her a long time to answer him back, obviously showing she was uncomfortable with the power she possessed. When Jillian finished explaining she seemed quite bothered. When the final sentence was spoken it left Sean in his own kind of shock. Small images came back from the hospital that kicked him out each and every day. The autumn looked down and dismissed the memory from coming back. His blue eyes still searched the carpeted floor as he muttered out an apology, "Hn. I'm sorry.."

"It's okay Sean, it wasn't your fault,"  Jillian looks up into his blue eyes.  They're mysterious and they make him seem closed off, as if he's hiding something.
Looking people in the eye has always been uncomfortable for her, but it's different with Sean now. The moment they shared makes Jillian feel somewhat closer to him; accidentally discovering something about someone's past tends to have that effect.
"I should be apologizing.  I wasn't thinking and I, well I didn't have any right to do that,"  She smiles apologetically at him, hoping he can forgive her for seeming so insensitive.

Sean shifted in his standing position, "Don't worry about it, it's fine." His blue eyes then darted to the book shelf, 'Book 207 will have to do today' The book then slipped off the shelf and into his hand, the title was Cracker! The Best Dog in Vietnam. 'This shall do.' With a bit of consentration the book shrunk in his hand making it small enough to slip into his pocket. Sean looked back up at Jillian and smiled, "I got my book."

Her apologetic look turns to one of wonder as she sees the book in his hand shrink. Jillian stares at him with her mouth open; she knows everyone else here has powers, but the way he casually displayed them was novel to her.
"Oh my-how did you-wait, no, I mean-that was incredible!" She stumbles through her words as she tries to find a way to express her wonder at his power. She closes her mouth and smiles at him, looking into his eyes, and for the first time in a long time, not turning. Jillian clears her throat and speaks a little slower this time so she won't trip over her words:
"Is that your power? You, uh, shrink things?" Her nervousness fades slowly away as she looks at Sean.

Sean smiled back at Jillian as he looked at her golden eyes. He normally shrunk his books or anything else to practice making them bigger, it was a routine now. "Thank you."  she seemed in wonder that he used his power right in front of her, she was still considerably new, most of the time he was amazed by others powers too. He  made a small laugh when she tried to guess his power, "Sorta, you got pretty close. I have size manipulation, so I can shrink just about any item or make it bigger.  I'm trying to shrink as many things as I can to practice making them bigger." Sean still had a hard time increasing the size of many items and practiced as much as he could.

"That's incredible! I wish I had an impressive power like that..." Jillian mumbles the last part to herself quietly, cursing herself in her head for letting something like that slip. She's been extremely insecure about her powers since she realized she had them and being so many individuals with unique powers has caused it to get worse.
She pulls herself from her thoughts and chuckles quietly, "I guess what this school is all about, huh? Learing to, uh, control our powers,"
The positive direction in which the conversation had turned leaves Jillian with a happy, warm feeling inside and it makes her feel much better about talking with Sean. Her smile settles on her face, making her eyes light up with warmth.

Sean frowned, he didn't think his power was that impressive, well not yet since he couldn't control it that well. Jillian mumbled something after complimenting him, he couldn't make it out that well but got the gist of it. "Thank you, I hope my power improves. Yours is pretty interesting, you can learn a lot from a person with a power like that." He actually liked her power, it was hard to think of ways to use it, but that was the fun part. Learning how to control the power.

He gave a friendly smile back to Jillian, "Yea, although it's very difficult. I was actually planning to practice with my weapon, which I have yet to pick out. Have you picked one yet?" Sean thought of providing her a tour throughout the gym, although he hasn't been there himself.

"A weapon?" Jillian asks, shocked by the notion that the students here need weapons, "What do we need weapons for?" She can't recall reading anything about them in the information she was given about the school, but it's not like she payed much attention to the papers full of boring, routine school rules and disclaimers.
Jillian hates confrontation and the thought of doing something as serious as a battle is, frankly, terrifying. Trying to not only inflict pain but also protect herself at the same time is...stressful to say the least. Her eyes widen a bit and she bites her lip as her mind wanders about all the horrific accidents that could happen during training. Jillian's mind soon jumps to thoughts of who it is they're fighting, why they're fighting, and even more wild possibilities. She hugs her books close and her eyes lower to the floor.
