Learning to Trust

Sophia stood nervously at Matthew's door once again. Last time things didn't go so well there was the drunk thing, and then the other thing. Well she had a feeling that feelings would come out soon, and things would end well. Though she didn't know how to confront the situation. She had dealt with things like this before. But Matthew was different. She wanted to keep him as a friend, but if she told him that she knew about his feelings, and would have to outright reject them, would they keep their friendship? Or would she have to come clean about somethings?

With a hefty sigh, she knocked on the door with the back of her left hand. Her gloves causing a different sound than what was considered the normal knocking sound. But Matthew had her visit before so he should be used to her type of knocking. Anyway it was time to wait on him to answer now.

As soon as Matthew heard that muffled knock he instantly sat up. He sighed with embarrassment. The Winter got up off of the couch and headed to the door, his head hung in shame. When he reached the door he hesitated, then opened the door, quickly putting on a half-hearted smile. "Hey Soph!" he said, motioning her to come in, "Close the door, please." He added as he sat back down onto the couch. "So what brings you around?"

"Just dropping by. Actually I had nothing better to do so I decided to come by." She said walking inside. She could tell that he had done something. One he didn't call her Soph, too she could easily see the half-hearted smile. And telling her to close the door? Well this was a bit strange. She used her foot to close the door behind her because she was too lazy to turn around. After she heard the door close, she went and joined him on the couch.

Matthew nodded. "Well, I'm glad you came. I don't really have too many friends, although that's probably my own fault." he said, laughing a bit.

Sophia reached up with gloved hands and pulled out the tiny bows that normally sat in her hair. She didn't want to have them in right now. Once they were fully out of her hair she sat them on the table that sat near the couch. She leaned back into the couch relaxing a little bit. "What's up?"

"Not much, really. You saved me from accidentally falling asleep on the couch, though." he said, "What about you?"

"Sleep sounds nice. Being lazy sounds nice." She remarked before answering his question. "Well I was either going to go to the art studios and paint, or I was going to go back to my dorm, and nap or I was going to go back to my dorm and draw, but I decided to come here instead." It was true she was going to do either of those things, but she wanted to hang out with someone, and Matthew was the one to hang out with today.

"I like your drawings, or at least the one I saw. It's very pretty." he said. "I was planning on doing something, but that was before I almost fell asleep and forgot what it was." He looked at the table and picked up one of the girl's bows. "These are very pretty too. They suit you."

"I'm kind of private about certain sketch books. The one you saw you were free to look through if you wanted. There was nothing I don't want anyone seeing in that one. And if you head over to the art studio you would probably see a few of my paintings." Sophia said. She let her head fall back, letting it rest against the top part of the couch. "That's why I wear them everyday, but they can get annoying from time to time."

Matthew nodded. "I bet they can be. But they're really nice, all the same." he replied. His eyes widened a bit. "Some of your art is hanging in the studios? That's really cool!" he added.

"It's just up there just cause it's not that amazing. A piece I did couple days ago is probably still drying. Oil paint is a pain." She said. "It's not that cool."

"I'm sure they look amazing." he said. He got up off the couch and headed over to the fridge. He opened the door and grabbed his favorite soda, Dr. Pepper. "You want something to drink? We got all kinds of soda. Or water if that's what you want." he asked her.

She wasn't exactly thirsty at the moment, but might as well get something anyway.. She was probably going to get thirsty later. "Water is fine with me." She didn't really want any soda at the moment, and soda never really helped with anything. So yeah water was just fine. Though a beer would be nice to relax her nerves slightly.

He grabbed the beverages and brought them back to the couch. He handed Sophia's to her and sat back down. He cracked open his soda and took a drink. "So, is there anything specific you wanted to talk about?" he asked nonchalantly.

She paused for a moment. Should she tell him? It was probably best to get it over with. Take a sip of her water, she sat up straight, and let out a sigh. This was going to be bad. "Look.. Don't take this the wrong way.. but I know you have feelings for me, but it would be a good idea to just get rid of those feelings.." She said in a soft tone. God this was bad. She didn't want to explain why it would be a good idea just to discard those feelings. "I mean.. I'm fine with the kissing and stuff.. just not the feelings behind it.." She should just shut-up and leave.
