The Beata Facility - a prison AU

The Beata Facility
A maximum security prison designed to quarantine gifted individuals from the outside world, located in rural North Dakota. Its existence is kept a secret from the mainstream public. When gifted children are discovered, usually in early childhood or around puberty, they are secretly abducted and detained by a special force and whisked off to the Facility, where they will presumably spend the rest of their life. Experiments and research are conducted on inmates to unlock the secrets of their gifts.

The Outer Perimeter
- nestled in a mountain valley
- one road in or out
- surrounded by three walls ridged in electrified razor wire
- each wall separated by a well-lit open lane
- trenches dug along the base of each wall
- passageways through the walls double as guard stations
- passageways barred by turnstiles, gates, and locked steel doors
- each wall is patrolled six times daily by a group of armed guards with trained security dogs
- walls and landscape are dotted with watchtowers
- all gates can be locked down in the event of an escape attempt or riot
- opening courtyard behind the innermost wall, titanium gates greeting the front of the Facility
- alarms and motion sensors

Within the Facility
- filled with security cameras, but blind spots exist
- doors, gates, and barriers are all remote-controlled from a central access room
- doors, gates, and barriers can only be passed otherwise with an ID card or a set of keys
- there are both single-inmate cells and shared cells with bunk beds
- inmates are designated by a security level which restricts their level of freedom within the prison
- prison extends underground, with higher risk inmates closer to the bottom
- four large main cell blocks on every level
- inmates of all security levels mingle and mix to some extent, but there is a level of segregation
- jobs and privileges within the facility are provided depending on security level
- large cafeteria, with inmates working in the adjoining kitchens
- comprehensive medical care provided in infirmaries
- prison library
- communal showers
- basic education provided, with classrooms
- a recreation yard that surrounds the prison
- gym and weightlifting room
- room for other recreation through board games and arts & crafts
- prison workshop
- worship areas
- a prison store, called the Canteen, where inmates can purchase luxury items
- isolation cells, or solitary confinement, where lawbreaking inmates can be confined and segregated from the rest of the prison population
- death row, where inmates can be executed if judged necessary
- various research facilities, which range from small medical rooms to large gyms

Containing Prisoners
- Serum, a drug that can suppress a gifted individual's power for up to 72 hours
- various levels of armed guards, from basic supervisors and cell managers to a full on riot suppression force
- small doses of Serum are mixed into the prison food and water, dampening most inmates' powers

Prison Culture
- black market in weapons, drugs, luxury items, and contraband among inmates
- gang activity common
- 'snitching' to guards is taboo
- cells segregated by gender to discourage sexual relationships, which are nonetheless common between inmates
- a contraband drug can be created that can counteract the effects of Serum, overloading the individuals' gift, but this may cause bodily harm or induce a temporary frenzied psychosis on the user

Security Levels
Level 1
- designated as minimum risk
- cooperative behavior
- clean record
- passes psychological evaluation
- passive gift
- more privileges and liberty allotted than other prisoners, with less supervision
- must share cell with another inmate

Level 2
- designated as low risk
- cooperative behavior
- clean record, or with only minor infractions
- passes psychological evaluation
- potentially harmful gift
- required to do some form of work within the prison
- has all privileges
- must share cell with another inmate

Level 3
- designated as medium risk
- mixed record
- mixed results for psychological evaluation
- known dangerous gift
- required to do some form of work within the prison
- some privileges restricted, but most left intact with good behavior
- may or may not have to share a cell with another inmate

Level 4
- designated as high risk
- significant criminal activity recorded
- mixed results for psychological evaluation
- known dangerous gift
- restricted amount of work within the prison
- recreation restricted, with few privileges
- single cells are required
- high supervision
- required weekly doses of Serum to dampen gifts

Level 5
- designated as maximum risk
- known violent or criminal tendencies
- high possibility of an escape attempt acknowledged
- failed psychological evaluation
- highly dangerous gift
- no work allowed within the prison
- no privileges
- all recreation restricted except for one hour out in the rec yard
- kept within an isolation cell for almost all hours of the day
- must almost always be accompanied by at least one guard
- shackled whenever they are escorted out of their cell
- otherwise kept in straitjacket
- required weekly doses of Serum

Level 6
- hidden level
- labels only one designated inmate, who is codenamed by the Facility as Argona

I would love to do this. I already have an idea for what level a certain character would be on.
