The Dynamic Duo Arrives [Rain/Open]

Martin stepped off the bus, carrying his suitcase full of his things, and walked to the entrance of the academy. He turned back to the bus to wait for his best friend, Caleb. The two had been best friends since birth. They were inseparable. When he found out that they'd both be attending Beata together, he was ecstatic. They wouldn't have to live apart after all. Besides, without Caleb by his side, he didn't know if he'd be able to use his gift. Every since he had almost burned down his house as a child, he had been scared of his gift.

Suitcase in hand, Caleb stepped off the bus, a backpack slung over his shoulder. He was giddy. The idea of going to a new school with his best friend excited him. He was also secretly relieved that it wasn't just him and Martin that had powers in the world, and he was glad to be away from home for a while. At the gate of this big school, Caleb felt like there was hardly anything stopping him anymore. He was free to be himself.

"Let's go," he said to Martin as the bus rolled away.

King sat on a bench near the entrance of Beata. He sat there eating a sandwich and drinking an orange soda. It was very peaceful and calm to say the least. Minding his own business as he took sips of the orange flavored drink. He watched blankly as students entered and left the gates of the school. One after another, after another, after another, so uninteresting. This almost felt like any other school aside from the fact that everyone here had a gift. His eyes wandered around until he saw two older students exit a bus. It wasn't hard to see that they were knew. This was evident by the suitcases they had with them. Two new students here. Two more gifts to add to this academy. How is this school still standing with all these gifted people here? The boy wondered as he took another bite of the sandwich.

Martin smiled. "I'm coming." he said, following his friend. He looked around some more at the beautiful scenery. "So uhh.. do you know where we're supposed to go?" he asked Caleb sheepishly.

At his friend's question, Caleb could only shrug. They hadn't been given a map or directions. He figured they ought to locate the office in order to get dorm assignments or whatever they needed, only he had no clue where that was, as they hadn't been told anything. He glanced over and saw someone eating a sandwich and watching the passersby that went by the gate. Indicating for Martin to follow, the dark-haired boy approached the kid sitting with a sandwich.

"Hey, I'm Caleb," he said confidently, setting the bag in his right hand down and then gesturing to his friend. "This is Martin. We just got here and, uh, we're a little lost." He laughed as he admitted to being lost, knowing it sounded a bit ridiculous.

Still looking at all the students pass him by, King quietly munched on his sandwich. His mind began to wander about and didn't notice the two new students approaching him. When one of them spoke, he quickly snapped out of his trance and was a bit startled. This caused him to fidget his feet and knock over the can of orange soda he had been drinking. The fizzy orange liquid began to slowly flow out of the can. "Damn it.." He said under his breathe. He glared back at the two new guys. "Yeah, I figured that...and you thought by coming here, I would give you a tour? Do I look like a tour guide? he scowled.

Martin was taken aback at the boy's rudeness. "H-he was just um.. asking if you could t-tell us where the office was." he muttered quietly, looking at his shoes. He didn't like confrontations, and he would go out of his way to avoid them.

Caleb automatically bent over to pick up the can of soda, preventing it from spilling too much of the drink and avoiding a sticky mess on the boy they had approached. When they were greeted less warmly, however, the dark-haired boy straightened up, his eyebrows furrowing as he felt indignation flare up inside of his chest. Subconsciously, he took a small step forward, half putting himself in front of Martin.

"Look, buddy, I'm sorry about your drink," he said, his tone all but apologetic. "We didn't meant to ruin your lunch, alright? We'll find our own way to the office if it's too much for you to handle." In a huff, Caleb grabbed the suitcase he had set down and moved to walk away.

King watched as the boy bent over to pick up the can. It wasn't filled to begin with, so there shouldn't be too much left in there. As Caleb began to speak, he picked up the can and swished it around. Just as he had thought, it was almost done. Once the boy finished speaking, King loudly sighed and stood up. "Come on. I'll take you both as far as the cafeteria, alright?" He said not too happily. The shorter boy began to walk slowly in the direction of the offices, motioning his hand for them to follow.

"Th-thank you." Martin said simply, not looking up from his shoes. He began to follow the boy, looking at Caleb to make sure that he was following as well. If this was how everyone was going to be, he didn't really want to be here any more.

Surprised, but trying not to show it on his face, Caleb followed King, flashing a smile at Martin. He hadn't thought being somewhat forceful would get him what he wanted. With a half skip, he fell in beside the boy who had seemed to reluctantly offer his assistance.
"Hey, thanks... I didn't catch your name," he said, glancing over.

"Yeah, yeah. It's no big deal. I only offered because I want another soda from the cafeteria." He said. King had still been walking at a slow pace, not once looking back at them. He didn't answer his question right away. A few seconds had gone by until he answered. "My name is King." He said. A small grin forming on his face. It was a name he wore with pride. A name that fit him, or so he thought. "So what powers do you and your friend have?" He asked curiously. The boy figured he might ask since they would be stuck with each other for a bit.

"I'm Martin." he said. He was walking a few steps behind Caleb, so he wasn't even sure that King would hear him, so he let his friend explain to him about their powers. He hated his power, but he was stuck with it. It was destructive, and it only brought him trouble. He never liked using his gift, even though sometimes he lost control, like when he was younger and almost burnt down his house.

"Well, I can merge with people and Martin here is a fireball," Caleb grinned, amused at his own little joke. He acted fairly proud of his gift, even if he hadn't come close to mastering it yet. "What about you?" He also wondered how long King had been at the school, but he saved his question for later, curious about the wide variety of gifts at the school.

"Basically, I am really strong." the boy said shortly. King kept replaying what Caleb had said; how he "merges" with people. How interesting. Just when he was about to ask how that works exactly, they were a few feet from the offices. King stopped walking and turned toward them. "These are the offices, you can get all your paperwork and stuff here. Try not to take too long, alright?" He said as he folded his arms across his chest, looking toward them.
