| Rain pounded the ground in a rhythmic pattern, dripping from the leaves of the towering trees and onto the soft undergrowth below. A shiver escaped Devin as he hugged his black raincoat tighter to his body with his free arm, his other hand wielding his scythe. The weapon was planted firmly on the ground, the silver blade glinting from the rain that raced down its smooth surface. The young ‘demon’ stood at the edge of the rainforest, standing not far from where they had been dropped off. It had been trouble getting to the Congo Rainforest - traditional flights were a bad idea when you had wings. But somehow they managed, and they were now in Africa. It was amazing to be out of the United States - he had barely ever been out of Salem, Massachusetts before he went to Beata! But sadly they weren’t there to sight-see, they were there to taken on a mission. Devin raised his free hand, dipping it underneath the hood of his raincoat and brushed his hair in a nervous motion before shivering. His raincoat sheltered him from worst of the downpour, but the cold preparation still chilled him to the bone. Part of him was wondering why he had even bothered to sign up for this mission.
Thinking back on it, he had joined because a mission sounded like fun. Go somewhere in the world and solve a problem! Almost like mission-work. Only...Most missions that Christians went on didn’t involve having to hunt down a mythical animal and slay it. He grimaced, tightening his grip on his staff. That was a part he wasn’t looking forward to. He didn’t like the idea of fighting...killing, but this creature had taken the lives of others and so it had to be stop before more people fell victim to it. But they barely knew what it was, with the survivors describing a cat-like animal. Surely there were a few other missions that would've seem more reasonable to do. But it was to late - he was here. But at least he was not alone.
His eyes flickered over toward Aleta, the one other person who had decide to join this mission. He was happy that she had joined him - although he wasn’t sure why she had. He had been too nervous to ask during the whole flight here. But that didn’t matter, she was here and that would make this whole mission all that more better! It would of sucked if he had to do this with somebody he didn’t know. Hopefully this would be an open and shut mission, a quick and easy one. Maybe the animal wouldn’t stand a chance to them - they had gifts after all. Still...A feeling of dread lingered in his stomach, but he pushed it away as he turned his gaze to the ground. His wings quivered, shaking off some of the rain that dripped down in as he poked at the ground with his feet. After a few moments, his eyes turned back toward the rainforest and he cleared his throat. “Shall we go on?”

| Aleta wore a similar rain coat, her dark hair was pulled into a pony tail all tied together with a black band. Knives were strapped to her thigh, and a kunai was clutched in her right hand. Her dark eyes were focused on the forest in front of her. It is one thing to hear about the place, and another to actually be there. The trees were very tall. Taller than anything she'd seen before. The girl had to tilt her head back as far as possible to look up at the canopy of the trees. They were supposed to find a mythical animal in this? That was like finding a hay colored needle in a hay stack. Pretty much impossible.
This trip could all be thanks to her brother. Who was pushing her to get out there more and more recently. She could understand why. He was stuck at Beata. She had the ability to go places. It seemed to her that Leo wanted to live vicariously through her. While she appreciated, it also meant that Aleta had to go on more missions and participate in things. Not that she minded this mission at all. Especially since this mission was with Devin. It was a nice way to get out of the school and spend time together. The student hadn't thought of the fighting aspect yet.

| Devin swallowed as he took the first step into the rain forest. The moment the shadows of the canopy enveloped him, he instinctively tighten the grip on his scythe as he started to lead the way, his green eyes bright as he kept an eye out for anything that would point to where their target was. Every one in a while shaking branch stirred by the fluttering of a bird would startle him, causing him to raise his scythe before pausing upon realizing it was nothing. After the fourth time of this happening, he was starting to get annoyed at his jumpiness.
So, he turned his eyes to Aleta as he trekked forward. Perhaps talking would calm his nerves? It seemed like a silly idea - they were on a highly dangerous mission but...Really, trying to make some sort of small talk would be better then him then just silence. "This is pretty amazing," he found himself saying, his voice flickering with nervousness. "I-I mean it would be amazing if we weren't on this mission. I barely left my house before I came to Beata and now here I am...In a rain forest in Africa."

| At her nod, they had begun to walk through the forest. Such a vast area, and they had to cover all of it? It was not even like either of them had an ability to track it. Would they just stumble upon it? Or would they be wondering for days and days on end? The latter sounded terrible, and Aleta wasn't sure if she had the walking capabilities to do such a thing. Sure she could fly, but she could only do that for so long. At Devin's first movement, she too raised her weapon. But as soon as she realized he was being jumpy, she relaxed. For some reason, she didn't feel the danger that could be looming over them. It felt like a stroll in the forest next to Beata. Except in a way cooler area. Maybe she should get out more.
The girl gave him a grin of encouragement. "Most people have never seen this place. It's cool that we get to go here as a mission." Especially this far South. Aleta noted his nervous speech. It matched his actions earlier. He was just over thinking this. How dangerous could this creature be anyways?

| Yes, Devin might of been overthinking how dangerous this could be but it was better to safe then sorry, right? Of course, Aleta being calm did help him as he glanced back at her every once in a while as they moved forward. When his eyes weren't behind him to look at Aleta, they were staring at the forest around them. Truth be told...It was pretty awesome that they were here. I mean, if you forget about the whole dangerous creature that has been killing things then yeah, it was nice.
"Yeah...I suppose," he said with a soft sigh, before attempting to force himself to take deep breaths in an attempt to calm his nerves. When that didn't work, he started to recite Bible verses in his head. After doing it a few times, something else caught his attention. Namely, the lack of something. He craned his neck a bit, attempting to stare up at the branches above them before swallowing. "Say....I-Isn't the rainforest suppose to be...Loud?" he said, frowning slightly as he motioned toward the canopy. The whole forest seemed to be silent, other then the sound of the falling rain hitting the plants and ground around them and the cry of a bird every once in a while. In fact, other then the few birds that had scared him he would dare to say that they really hadn't see any other animal. "Its really...Quiet."

| "Is it?" She responded, head craning around to get a better view. There was little light down at the forest floor. The canopy above absorbed all the light. Leaving little to be had on the ground. Every once and a while a single beam of light would make it's way through. Yet, not enough to allow them to see well. Didn't the rainforest have a ton of animals? It should be loud then, right? "I guess it is. What's up with that?" The girl asked, a frown passing her lips. | |

| Devin bunched his shoulders up, his wings folded tightly at her sides as Aleta comforted that it was indeed suppose to be loud. His green eyes flickered around the rainy forest, happy for whatever glimmer of light filtered thought the leaves. "Maybe...The monster scared them all off?" he muttered softly before taking notice of something. A soft groan escaped him when he noticed that the land started to slope upwards into a hill. It wasn't a steep incline but it was still a bother. His eyes flickered back to his wings, wishing he knew how to fly. Ah...Not that it would help in the rain forest. Weaving between trees didn't seem ideal. Peering up the hill, it looked like they were at least lucky enough to be at a base of what could be called a path - a straight path flanked by trees that led up. He turned his attention to Aleta. "S-Should we go up? Maybe we can get an idea of where to go from up there." | |

| ooc: I'm sorry, I had an AP test that I was stressing about. 3
Ic: The thought of the monster scaring off the other animals made Aleta frown, the monster couldn't be that bad. Could it? She stepped over a particularly high root and gave Devin a nod. "Yeah, let's go up." Her brown eyes were narrowed, the lack of animals causing the girl to regain her focus. Whatever was going on was not right. Wouldn't the monster have to be pretty strong in order to scare off the other animals? No matter how big or small. Aleta found herself avoiding anything that could cause a large sound. "What do you see?" She asked, eyes scanning the empty branches above. Sure Aleta could fly, but not every well. She'd like to avoid breaking an ankle.

| OOC: Its fine~ I've been busy with school myself.
Ic: Devin started to trek up the hill, doing his best to step over what roots and bushes laid in his way. He planted his scythe every step, using it to help him keep his footing on the slippy slope. He frowned slightly when Aleta spoke up. "I don't see a thing," he lamented as they counted up the slope. "All I see is the canopy..." He sighed, but noticed that the hill seemed to be rounding off. Oh, good, they were almost to the top.
OOC2: The real fun starts in the next post.

| The girl frowned, she had thought that he could have seen something that she did pick up. The top of the hill rounded off, which Aleta was thankful for. Any more and her legs would have not appreciated the hill. Meaning she could feel the burning in her muscles coming. Besides, they could most likely see more now that they were at the top. "How about now?" Aleta asked, pausing to look between the branches of a tree. They didn't even know what to look for, how would they know if they found the right one or not? | |

| Devin came to a stop, letting out a sigh of relief as he glanced around. However, he quickly frowned. His view was still limited with all of the trees, but at least they were almost in a small clearing of sorts. He narrowed his eyes, trying to focus as hard as he could. For a moment, he swore he saw a flicker of movement but it quickly disappeared so he brushed it off. "Ah...No," he sighed with an angry shake of his head. "I still can't see a thing! How are we suppose to find it any-"
The sound of a shaking branch cut him off, causing him to look directly up. The branch above him was quivering, and for a moment he thought it was a bird but he soon realized that it was moving way to much to be a bird. He frowned thoughtfully before his green eyes flashed open. "Above us!" he gasped as he stumbled backwards, gripping his scythe in both hands as something dropped from the canopy. A brown blur whizzed by his face, following with a solid 'thunk' as something impacted the ground where he had been standing before. Devin gripped his scythe with both hands as the feline-like creature pushed itself to its paws, glancing over its shoulder to stare at Devin with red eyes and slitted pupils. It had short coarse fur, the pattern on it reminding him of a leopard as it was covered with spots. An unearthly snarl left its throat as it flickered a tasseled ear, raising its spiked club-like tail from where it had impacted the ground - right where Devin had been standing. Devin swallowed, raising his scythe slightly. Or...The thing could find them he supposed. He breath came quickly, panic almost setting in as he didn't want to fight. He didn't really know how to fight. What was this creature anyways? He...His eyes caught movement, his breath catching in his throat when he saw the creature spin where it stood - bringing its tail around in a circle where it headed straight for Devin. His eyes widen. "Get ba-Ack!" As he spoke, he raised his scythe in an attempt to parry the attack. The tail crashed into the staff of his weapon and for a moment it seemed like Devin stopped the attack. Then his arms gave out. The tail, still filled with momentum, sent the scythe crashing into his stomach and knocked all the air out of him as he stumbled backwards. He gasped as he lost his footing, flaring his wings out in an attempt to catch himself. It didn't work. He felt himself tumbling backwards, fear flashing in his green eyes as he glanced at Aleta. "Aleta-" he gasped painfully, almost to quiet for even himself to hear before his foot left the slippy wet ground and he hit the ground with a painful jolt. He kept rolling. He had fallen down the hill they had just climbed. Tumbling head over heel, his body shook every time he crashed though a bush or bounced off of a root. He quickly lost his grip on his scythe, and by some magic didn't impale himself on it. He was aware of every bump until his head smashed against a thick root. The rest of the fall was a painful blur. By the time he gained enough of his senses back, he was lying on the bottom of the hill. He could feel warm blood dripping down the back of his head...Or was it the rain? His eyes flickered toward the top of the hill, having enough energy to whisper a single word. "Aleta..." He stretched out a hand which soon went limp as his whole world became black. The creature let out an annoyed sniff, almost disappointed at how easily it had taken out that strange human. So, it allowed its red gaze to shift on the remaining one. It crouched down with a snarl, although its eyes glimmer with primal joy. It had been long since it had a real challenge for a meal, and this was going to be fun.Ooc: Silver Cat: 1 Devin: 0

| Aleta had begun to feel slightly discouraged my the time they reached the top. There had been nothing to indicate the monster's presence besides the lack of animals. But even that didn't help them pin point exactly where it was, or how they were going to fight it. For all she knew, it could be the size of a dime! The girl let out a huff at the shake of Devin's head.
His yell startled her, brown eyes growing wide. As if on instinct, her wings appeared. Not in a bright flash like her brothers, but faded into existence. Just fast enough to move out of the way of the cat like monster and it's spiked club-like tail. She let out a cry, gripping her kunai tightly. "Devin, watch out!"
It was too late, as her friend was sent rolling down the hill. The girl hurried to the edge of the hill, watching in horror as Devin lay motionless at the base of the steep slope. 'Please be alive, please!' The thought with despair. A long moment passed with no movement, and she turned her dark eyes to face the monster. An unfamiliar anger surging through her. "I'm not going to let you get away with this, you monster." The girl waved her kunai at the monster, a pitiful move, as she wasn't the best fighter. But with the anger she felt, Aleta felt like she could fight off a hundred of the cat like creatures.
Not wasting a second, Aleta shot forward with her weapon pointed toward it's face.
ooc; You can let the monster beat up Aleta now. |D

| The snarl in its thought faded as she spoke up, an almost smile flashing on its face as if it understood her referring it as a 'monster' and agreed with her. Its eyes landed on the sword that the student waved at it as Aleta darted forward. The Silver Cat, as it was properly called, darted forward as well, easily dodging the sword as it swung its tail at her legs to trip her and bring her down. The moment it was behind her, the Silver Cat spun and leaped toward Aleta's open wings with sharp claws. | |

| Why did she think that charging at such a large animal would work? She could hardly blink before the tail knocked her off of her feet. The girl landed on her stomach, wings outstretched from trying to regain balance when she was sent tumbling. Aleta's head hit the ground, the kunai was knocked from her hands. Slowly, she fought to stand up. There was a dazed look to her face, but the anger still remained. The girl bit her lip and her eyes took another glance down the hill.
That was when the cat when on the offensive. Sharp claws raked down her wings, pain sheered up her wings and back. Leo never told her that wings felt pain! The girl let out a cry of agony, a renewed effort to get up. But as the claws scored over the base of the wing, the pain became too much. Aleta forced her wings to disappear, and she scrambled away, quickly turned around so she could face the animal. With shaky hands, she pulled out a throwing knife. Tears building in her eyes, she let them spill over onto dirtied cheeks.

| As the wings disappeared into thin air, the Silver Cat stepped backwards as Aleta scrambled away and turned to face it. A proud look flashed across the Silver Cat's face, an excited hiss escaping it as it crouched down. It had been so long since any real prey had given it such a fight - it had even grown bored of its normal style of gathering prey but this? This was something it had sorely missed. It tail sliced the air as it lashed back and forth, drawing itself forward as its eyes locked onto the small blade in the girl's hands. It wanted to lunge forward, to attack but it forced itself to wait to see what she would do with her knife. Instead, the Silver Cat kept its muscles bunched, ready to move if the human decided to attack. | |
