Gonna make it burn [Closed]

While Morgan wouldn't say she treated Jonathan like the other students did, she would agree that their relationship had certainly... shifted since he'd become a teacher. Ever since that day at the gym, she had been busy sifting through feelings that she didn't even understand. Now, with his new position, she had been more confused and conflicted than ever, and she still couldn't figure out why. They still saw each other around, and though she still considered him her only friend, the redhead had been doing her best to avoid being in his presence too much. After all, when she was, she reverted back to her old self, all burning hot cheeks and fiddling with her shirtsleeves.

Obviously, she had been doing a very bad job of avoiding him, because here they were, about to embark on a mission together. Alone. For an indeterminable amount of time.

She wasn't sure why that made her so anxious.

Still, she couldn't deny that she was beyond excited for this opportunity to prove herself. She wasn't sure what was to come, but she had a feeling it was going to work out.

Walking through the front entrance, she spotted the taxi just beyond the gate, but she didn't see Jonno until she had passed the gate. When she saw him leaning against the fence nonchalantly, her cheeks heated up without her consent. She smiled, but inwardly she was thinking, This is going to be a long trip.

"Breaking the rules already, are we? I guess I won't rat you out, Professor." Her lips quirked into a smile that she couldn't help. It was still weird to think of him as a legitimate teacher, and she wasn't sure she'd ever be able to seriously call him Professor Kent. No, he was still just Jonathan to her.

That at least hadn't changed.

She had forgotten how much she enjoyed just being in Jonathan's company. His bright smile and cheery attitude contrasted her reserved nature, and he always seemed to bring out a better side of her. She liked the way that she was around him. Still, Morgan was Morgan, and that meant that she was still generally awkward. While she had already read up on their mission, having something to distract herself with probably wasn't the worst idea. Taking the folder from Jonno with another soft smile, she passed him and climbed into the taxi. After all, they had lives to save, and there was no need to delay.

Looking up from the file before her (which, admittedly, she wasn't even paying attention to) Morgan raised an eyebrow, amusement warming her eyes. "Uncontainable rebellion streak. Right." Come to think of it, she couldn't think of a single rebellious thing Jonathan had done. True, she wasn't extremely close with him (and spent a frankly embarrassing amount of time avoiding him), but she found it hard to believe that he had a wild side.

Though, she really wasn't one to talk.

The majority of the trip to Michigan was spent more comfortably than Morgan would have thought. While the redhead hated awkward interactions and despised small talk with all of her being, she was once again surprised by how easily she could just... spend time with Jonathan. After a while, the seemingly permanent fire on her cheeks faded away and she was able to relax into the casual silence that sat between them.

Eventually, her reprieve ended as they made it to their destination. As they pulled up, she leaned closer to Jonathan's window (and subsequently him) to get a better view of where they'd be staying. "Not exactly the ideal vacation destination, huh?" Looking over, she realized with a start how close Jonathan was, and she quickly pulled away, thankful for the way her hair covered the blush coming back to her face in full force.

A few minutes later, they stood outside the hotel, eyeing the inside uncertainly. The fire on her cheeks had subsided, and she was once again able to meet Jonno's eyes as she looked over and shrugged her shoulders. When she had accepted this mission, she had simply imagined constant action and excitement as they completed their objective. She completely forgot about all of the mundane steps in between, like checking into hotels. "You tell me, Professor. You're the adult here, after all."

Morgan was about to reply, but as the door fell off it's hinges and the sound of shattering glass broke the silence of the eery hotel, all that she could muster was a quiet, "Fuck." This day had not gone at all how she had thought it would. She had been mentally and physically preparing herself to kick ass and save lives, not to deal with paperwork for property damage. What the fuck were they supposed to do about this? There was a moment of shocked silence, where she fixed wide eyes on Jonathan in a helpless look before the unfamiliar voice rang out. Alright, maybe paperwork and a strong scolding from the manager was the least of their worries. Uncertain of what to do, all she could get out was a stuttering of, "Uhh, I don't - " before Jonathan grabbed her wrist and ran.

Morgan supposed she should have been thankful that he tugged her along after him, since she probably would have stayed frozen in place to face whatever they left at that inn, but her first reaction to his contact was the one that was ingrained in her since she was a child - fear. Her body tensed up and her eyes grew even wider as she instinctively tried to pull away. That only lasted for a moment, and then the realization that she couldn't hurt him calmed her nerves, allowing her to follow along, now focusing on getting the hell away from trouble. Still, a small part of her lingered on the pleasant feeling of his hand gripped around her wrist.

The thought was cut short as she was pulled hard into the alcove, suddenly much closer to him than Morgan would have liked. (Or, at least, that's what she was telling herself.) She was so close she could feel the heavy beat of his heart against her ear. She realized how fast her own was racing, but part of her knew that it couldn't be blamed solely on running through the streets. She closed her eyes, trying to focus on anything other than the weird things that her mind kept falling back to, like how nice his cologne smelled, or wow, alright, she knew he worked out but...

It was all a bit overwhelming for Morgan, and completely unfair. "Is this really necessary, Jonathan?" She mumbled, but still made no move to pull away.
