The sobbing came to an abrupt stop. The girl's head snapped up from her pillow, evidence of tears streaked across her cheeks. With puffy red eyes, she watched as the door handle shook, turning ever so slightly with a short squeak before it froze.
None of her roommates had bothered to comfort the girl throughout the course of this breakdown. Perhaps the situation was too awkward, but what could change their intentions now? A small part of her, call it intuition or just plain magic, knew it wasn't any of her new dormmates that hesitated at her door.
Shaky hands reached down, pressing against the floor she lay on. With a trembling form, she pushed herself upwards and onto her knees. There was no strength in the girl's frail body but something in her heart forced her towards the door.
Her fingers rested against the door handle. Her voice was as wobbly as her legs as she rested her head against the frame and spoke out. "C-Cayden?"
