| He shrugged, upkeeping his small grin best as he could. “You know what they say," Jason mused. "Distance makes the heart grow fonder." For a brief moment, it had felt like he was trying to convince himself more than anything, rubbing away at the back of his neck. In truth, it did often bother him. It got old having the house still and silent. He was often left with longing, stuck in an empty bed. "No good relationship is ever easy... I think?" That was what all the cheesy drama shows always said.
He let his voice trail off softly, not realizimg how down and personal he had appeared then until too long after the fact. Fuck. The blonde flashed on a brighter smile, his tone rising. "But the company will be nice."

| She was on the brink of shaking. Blinking a little too much, and even on her best days, she presumed she blinked a little too much already. "Y-yeah. I... I ag-agree." Evelyn traced her finger along the inside of her cup's looped handle, keeping the liquid steady. Maybe it was her near-fall earlier in the day finally capturing up with her. This was like a bad dream, just trying to bait her into the wrong decision. Her adrenaline was heightening in the suffocating awkwardness of their conversation. "She m-must make you hap-happy." Almost sweating. It felt like . How she so wanted to desperately abort the sentence and hope he didn't press. "S-so it's w-w-worth it..."
He was her 'happy.' She was always fretting to herself that he could do so much better than her. Watching him now, it brought her absolutely no pleasure to see that she was completely correct. Long weeks apart aside, what did she have to top her? Even if Elodie got hit by a bus or struck by lightning or swept up in a rock-slide, how could Jace go from her to her? Would it even be right to get between two people this good for each other? And even if her happy ending just fell into her lap, would she be able to handle it if he forgot her again? | |
