The Yeti of the Lower Himilayas - Page 3 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Yeti of the Lower Himilayas   The Yeti of the Lower Himilayas - Page 3 EmptyThu Mar 28, 2013 9:40 am

Simon grinned, putting his mask over his head and strapping it in the back. He then fingered a black button under the chin of the mask, and the mouthpiece suddenly glowed a blue. This signified the communications device was on, and that anyone in his proximity with the mask would be able to hear him clearly in their earpiece.

Though the wind was over for the most part, a sudden harsh gust caught Lotte off guard. She grew stiff, wincing and shutting her eyes as it passed. The first thing she did when it died down was put the mask on, and she was surprised when not much cold filtered into the mask. It was impressive, and the girl mimicked what Simon did to turn on her mask. The mouthpiece on her's glowed a bright red. Red happened to be her favorite color, what luck!

Simon cleared his throat. "If you are ever caught in a situation where you have to hide, please turn off your communications device! A glow is pretty easy to spot for a monster trying to kill it's prey!" stated Simon, a little loudly as to get it across to the people who had yet to put on masks. "There is a button on the other side of the mask for adjusting channels. One press for channel two, two presses for channel three, and there are seven channels. Please stick to channel one during the fight. I don't want any friendly fireside conversations with half the group while the other half is trying to get a hold of you."
And with that, he motioned for them to follow him and started walking off towards the mountains. The people in the camp who saw them start to head off waved, some wooting and some shouting: "Good Luck!"

Turning on her mask, Kimply stared at Simon with hidden wide eyes. That didn't sound like a completely safe plan. Not only would you be cornered, but you'd also be unable to call for help, or be found. Instead of voicing her opinion on the mask, she simply listened carefully and tossed her bow over her shoulder. Following behind Simon, Kimply turned back towards the camp, smiling and waving, excitement making her steps light.

Jace looked paused his walked and looked down at her curiously for a few moments longer. He wasn't entirely sure if her being nervous was simply it, but then again, he didn't trust himself to be able to tell. The young man nodded slowly, supposing her understood and smiled, "It'll be fine. This'll be a piece of cake." The autumn nudged Evelyn affectionately with his elbow and started walking forward again. It would be... He hoped.
He only paused again to look down at his mask. Her face freezing and his breath making a small fog, he supposed now would be a good time to slip it on. Jason pulled down his hood for a few moments to put it on, pulling it back up when it was done. He turned the mic on - noticing it glowed a bright, hot pink. Jace groaned. "Figures." He muttered. Oh, well. OWN IT, JACEY. <3

Evelyn nodded and swayed from his nudge, still frowning slightly as Jace moved forward. With a sigh, she looked down to her own mask and held it up to her face before slipping it on. The instant warmth she felt made her sigh quietly in relief. Evelyn moved her hand up, fingering the mouthpiece. A bright violet light shined instantly, reflecting off of the plain mask and snow. Smiling in satisfaction, she looked up to see a bright pink emitting from Jace's own helmet, and a quiet suppressed giggle sounded across channel one before she went silent again, quickly moving forward and trailing the rest of the group.

She took the time to gaze around them. Nepal... she could still hardly believe it! When it wasn't so windy, it was really beautiful... she was thankful for the mask blocking the sunlight reflecting off of the pure white snow, looking around through the darkened tint. She was familiar with snow and mountains, but this was like a whole new world.

But even with the scenery her worries couldn't be forgotten and her smile began to fade. With every move the dagger in her jacket pocket smacked lightly against her leg, and she knew why they were here in the first place...

Simon led the group away from the camp, and they kept walking through the snow for a good half an hour. During this time, the mountains got closer and closer, looking ever more large and looming. Finally, they arrived at the bottom of a small mountain. Simon looked back at the group. When he spoke, a small crackle was heard that dissipated immediately.
"The cave is a minute's climb up this mountain. Stay together and be careful. It is not steep, so you can easily walk yourself up."

He started to climb up, going over the rocky terrain and gradually ascending the tiny mountain. Lotte followed a little nervously, making sure not to lose her footing and trip. With these sharp rocks, that would be dangerous. Fear blossomed in her chest when she heard they were close to the yeti as well. Hopefully they could take it...

As estimated, they reached a large cave entrance a minute later. The hollowed area was well lit from the entrance and holes in the top. It wasn't very deep in at all. There was no sign of a yeti anywhere. Was it all a story?

Montare followed after Simon aftering turning on his mask, causing it to glow a dark blue. When they reached the cave, he was slightly confused due to it being so empty. However, it didn't exactly mean the yeti was a fake. "Maybe it's out gathering or something." Montare suggested to the group, not wanting this to have been a waste of time.

A soft green light emitted from the mask, casting its light on her white jacket, though she barely noticed. Walking through the snow wasn't something totally foreign to her, though didn't mean she was any less drained once she reached the destination. However, excitement pumped through her like adrenaline, and she had trouble keeping still. That is, until she realized how high up she was.
On the way to the cave, Kimply felt like she could fall off any moment. Keeping close to the mountain, she tried to sort out her churning emotions before they overwhelmed her. She couldn't make smart decisions if she was too busy freaking out over the steep drop off. Or, not-so-steep not-really-a-drop-off-drop-off.
Taking a slow, shaky breath, Kimply tried not to appear as shaken as she felt. Note to self; figure out if you're scared of heights or not before signing up to climb large mountains. She drew her bow and looked around, listening for any sound. Any shift of snow, or any grunt of a possibly dangerous giant snow monster. From her side, she saw a dark shape's movement. Letting out a yelp of distress, she spun around and shot, barely missing the... the rabbit. It flashed past, and Kimply blushed with embarrassment.
Jeez. What a wonderful way to start her mission.

Jace said nothing for a few moments, pausing when he had heard the faintest giggle. 'Shut up,' He was tempted to say in a playfully cross manner, but he simply dropped it and let out a smile instead. The young man gave the researcher a funny look as he was seemingly too nervous to move on and far to eager to let a bunch of kids pursue a monster. Alright then. "Thanks." Jason muttered with a quick dip of his head as a thanks, saying nothing as he brought out what was sadly the best weapon that he had; Holding it in a far from uniform fashion at his side. Hey, if nothing else, he could use it to whack the yeti to death - or poke it in the eye with his bow... No one said killing it had to be tasteful or stylish.
Either way, now that they were actually up in the mountains and outside the cave of their target,he was about as on edge as Kimply was - although you might not have been able to tell for long. He laughed when the pink-haired tracker freaked out over the little shadow of the fleety rabbit. "Beautiful, Kimp. Truly dauntless." He grinned, cheering sarcastically and clapping. While his mood was brightening up, his guard was now lowered and - for the moment - he was vulnerable.

Evelyn had marched up the mountain with little difficulty. She always tried to stay healthy, by exercising and eating smartly. That, combined with her slow pace, made it so she felt hardly warmed up by the time they reached the cave. She heard Jace and Kimply joking around in the mic, but her gaze flicked around the area. Where was it? It stole food, so surely it must have brought it back where it could safely eat... This wasn't good. She slowly looked around, the mask obscuring her peripheral vision. "Are you sure this is the right cave?" her voice crackled suddenly over the channel, surprisingly loud and clear. She gripped the dagger in her jacket, not daring to move.

Before Simon could answer, a snort sounded from the entrance of the cave. The man cursed. "F-fuck it all, look at that thing!"

A giant figure blocked their exit. Silhouetted against the sun, it was about twelve feet tall. It's large lower teeth went over it's bottom lip, peeking out and yellow. It was covered with snow white fur, it's eyes a glowing yellow with pupils similar to those of a goat. In it's hand was an eagle, snatched from the sky. It's torso was bloody and mutilated. Upon seeing intruders in it's cave, it sniffed the air and let out a throaty roar, reverberating around the cave.

Lotte's knees felt weak and she started to tremble, not from cold but from fear. Attached to her back was a sheath for her quarterstaff, in which she took out. However, the coat made her movements slow and stiff. How could they win!?
"G-guys..." she whispered. "S-screw the money, let's escape with our lives!"

Evelyn whirled around and seemed to be glued in place, cementing her grip on the dagger. She was at a loss for words. This was no bear or monkey or misunderstood scavenger... the sound of the panic and cursing in her ear seemed to fade away as she stared, simply glued in place. Matted snowy hair, sinister looking jaws, small beady eyes that looked almost reptilian... it was a monster, like nothing she was sure anybody had ever seen before. "W-wow..." she whispered quietly to herself, her voice strained with fear and amazement. Running away was fine. That was good. Evelyn began to shuffle backwards, unable to avert her gaze.

"What the hell?!" Montare shouted out upon seeing the yeti blocking the entrance to the cave. He quickly drew his dagger, although it likely would not be very effective against something that size. Montare threw it onto the ground, shifting into a wolf right after. He let out a howl before picking the dagger up in his mouth.

Yeah, for a moment, Jace couldn't help but stare up with wide-eyes like the rest of them. "Oh, shit." The young man muttered for a few moments, the sound hardly audible over their channels. He shook his head, having seen things near as bad as this before during his time at Beata. Instead trying to run, a grin grew on his face. "Hello, Beautiful." Jason near sang, shooting a sharp glare back at Lotte. "Run away and let this thing keep terrorizing the town? No! We're here, we have to kill it!" The autumn boy seem strangely firm on this choice, not willing to flee. "I'll keep it distracted, you guys go for its side or behind!" The blonde ran to the side of the cave, thankful that he was so light on his feet. He brought his violin up and played a simple song, hoping to catch the Yeti's attention.

Alright, so heights and bunny rabbits didn't seem so bad anymore. Okay, Kimp. Here's the time to act like the elf your name makes you sound like you are. The monster can't be that fast, right? ... God, let me be right. Just.. Don't freak out. Don't freak out. Whatever you do, don't freak out. But in all honesty, she was slightly panicking. Taking another deep breath, Kimply slowly raised her bow, pulling the string back in a way not to draw attention to herself. Turning her head slightly, she caught what Jace ordered. She bit her lip, prepared the shot, and aimed towards the creature's stomach- though it looked like something had already worked on that. Letting the arrow fly, she crouched down and darted towards the creatures side. God, she hoped its attention was still on Jason...
She looked around for Evelyn, seeing the girl frozen in place. "Hey, Eve. I don't really think this is the best time to completely zone out." She practically hissed, her indigo gaze flicked around, always keeping the Yeti in her sight.

Evelyn shook herself out of her stupor as she heard Kimply's voice sound over the panic in her ear. Her careful shuffling back turned into her stumbling backwards, sending up a flurry of snow as she fell right on her bottom. "S-s-sorry!" she quickly apologized, though she wasn't sure what she was apologizing for. A mixture of fear, panic, and amazement still blazed in her chest, and she wasn't sure what she was going to do. She flinched at the sight of her pretty friend and dormmate ready to unleash an arrow into the monster. The thing was hideous and sounded angry, but they couldn't... could they... why...

Hearing the simple violin tune, she picked up her dagger and stood to her feet, unsure of what to do. She'd.... she'd... stand there. That was her place. She needed to stay out of the way. It was a mistake to come here.
