There is Such Thing as Too Much Knowledge {Open}

How could he have not seen this?

How could he have been this naive?

How could he have not noticed before?

How could he have not understood this, vast and seemingly unending knowledge?

He was an idiot, and now it was getting to him. The sheer number of texts that he was able to reach was simply something too large for anyone to be able to comprehend! Yet he lived his first 15 years without acknowledging what kind of power he was born with.

Chip knew what each of his peers wrote down on their journal, if at all. Their applications that the Academy had filed away on them. He could see their test scores, their essays, and even possibly get into their personal lives. For certain, Chip did not want that. He wanted to respect their privacy. Yet, since he discovered the sheer enormity of what the applications to his own power is, Chip cannot look at someone without automatically knowing their name, power, social security number, where they live… He hated it.

He could access the actual texts that were written back in the dawn of man. Hell! He can even access the secrets that governments were hiding. Their deepest darkest secrets, the writings of philosophers from ancient times to even modern times.

Everything.

It was overwhelming…

A headache began to throb in the back of his head, and in an attempt to block the pain, Chip grit his teeth together. He could feel a cold sweat at the back of his neck and long his brow, ringing in his ears, and attacks of life threatening panic. Based on a book he was able to remember, it was all signs of stress. The blond wouldn’t be surprised if more appeared. He had every reason to stress.

”What do I do?” Chip’s voice was merely a whisper. There was no book that told him how to handle being able to recall all this knowledge. What was he supposed to do with it? How was he supposed to handle this? It was all too much. Way too much for someone was young as him.

The blond boy was curled in the farthest corner of the library, a good few books floated protectively around the panicked boy. His knees were pulled close to his chest and head resting on his knees. The Winter’s breaths came out in ragged gasps, unable to take calming deep breaths.

”Help me.” A plea for help, for someone. ”It hurts…”

Louis opened the library door, coming to return the book he had checked out. But only after walking in did he hear a voice, a distressed voice. The tall blonde scanned the area, his eyes fell upon a boy flipping through books, a nervous look in his eye. "Hello? Mind if I sit here?" Louis said with his normal, kind smile as he walked up to the other student that was sitting in the corner.

Blue eyes shot up at the first student's voice. The peppy sound brought ire to his mind, and the boy tightened his fists. Just the smile that the boy was giving him caused the blond to grow angrier by the second. His muscles tightened his hands into a fist, which shook as he tried to restrain himself from throttling Louis. It was a sudden swing in his emotions. One moment, he was ready to cry, the next he wanted to hurt someone who was smiling while he was in agony.

Suddenly, the blond cried out, clutching his head with both hands. The pain grew to the point that Chip felt like passing out. The world around him seemed to fade except for the sound of a girl's voice and the pattern of the carpet in front of him. The girl's tone was not as nearly as annoying as Louis's had been, although, that could be said because Chip couldn't exactly make out her words.

But she seemed to be there to help, and his words flowed out of his mouth faster than Barry on Red Bull.

"T-th-the-r-re-re’s so much information I don’t know what to do w-with. It h-hurts, it hurts ithurtsithurts m-m-ma-make it sto-op!” The end came out as a sob, the agony reducing him to tears. They slipped passed his cheeks, and past his lips which were set deeply into a frown, and dripped off the bottom of his chin. The blond felt a touch at his hand, and jerked away. In response to his sudden movements, the books took action. The only action they could take. With a surprising amount of force, the hard cover books launched themselves repeatedly into the two students until they were at least a good foot away from Chip.

Now, he looked worse now. His sweat mixed with his tears of pain, and breath in more obviously labored gasps. Maybe in response to his crying, or even the panic itself.

Louis was taken off guard by the girl who pushed him, and soon he stood of to the side, wondering what to say. "I would have taken a softer approach..." The boy mumbled under his breath, than gave a sigh. "Need me to help with anything Juliette?" He said as kind as possible, though he wanted to give her a piece of his mind.

Surprisingly, Chip was able to find it in himself to do as the girl suggested. Her voice somehow got through his sobs, and he was able to process it. Focus on that one stain on the floor. The one that looks like a dog. Or vomit. Chip pushed back the influx of information, his hands lowering to grip the t-shirt at his chest. It was a good few long minutes where he sat there, taking shakey deep breaths, and closing off all thoughts he had. Only the stain in the carpet that looked like a dog running.

”How funny…” He whispered tiredly, a hint of his childishness coming back past his panic attack. ”It’s shaped like a dog…” His eyelids felt heavy, like he needed to hold them up with his fingers to keep his eyes open. The boy’s head suddenly slumped, and he collapsed to the floor with a strained look on his childish features.. Within the minute, Chip was asleep. Thus leaving the other two students with a predicament.

Louis was about to go fetch the nurse, when the boy threw books at them and then collapsed. "Uh..." Louis wasn't sure if he should get a nurse or not. Maybe getting a nurse, could make matters worse? he thought to himself. He rubbed his side were he was hit with a book, somewhat flustered and confused.

Louis looked at her blankly, still a little mad at her. "Why do you look at me like that? I thought you had everything under control." He said bluntly, staring at Juliette, then looking down at the boy.

Thankfully after a few long minutes, his breath calmed down, and his panic faded. Leaving the boy to his dreams. Which was the mind’s way of processing information.

Pictures flashed in his mind. Words and inscriptions passed by like a train going full speed. It began with cave paintings. The first beginnings of mankind’s attempt at language. The seal writings of the early Chinese people.The kind they wrote on pottery. It was painless, as these writings were simple, and lacked the complex stores and languages that modern day society had. Even more pictures flashed in his mind, depicting the languages evolving, and new languages sprouting from others. Different things began to play other than writings. Drawings, paintings, all from around the time of 1 AD.

From there Chip could feel the pressure growing in the back of his head once more as the dream continued. It was awfully vivid, the kind of dream that he knew he would be able to remember when he awoke. A sudden spike of pain filled his head as the pictures in his mind sped up. The Renaissance Period. “The Renaissance is a period in Europe, from the 14th to the 17th century, considered the bridge between the Middle Ages and modern history”. The Mona Lisa, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. All the books and works created in that time, no matter popular or even unknown to the world, they flew past his eyes.

Unknown to himself, he had begun to mumble the names of the books in his sleep. Most of the titles seemed to blur together, but if one listened closely, they could make out major writings and artistic pieces.

Louis opened the door for Juliette. When they got into the hall, the boy started talking. "Uh... Should we be worried?" The tall blond said nervously as he walked beside the girl carrying the body. What if he starts to freak out again, but in his sleep?

Louis followed the girl, noticing there was a sudden sense of urgency when the boy started to mumble. After a long and fast paced walk to the infirmary, he stood next to Juliette. What now? The boy thought for a moment. "Well, no ones here, and who knows how long it will take to find the nurse. In the mean time, I can watch over him. I may not be a certified nurse, but I certainly know a lot about it. I mean, I am in training to get my Medical Doctorate." Louis didn't want to sound like a snob, but he knew this was their only option right now.

From there it got faster. And faster. To the point where he was right back to the beginning, his breath heightened, and the sweat began to re-appear along his forehead. The books within the infirmary began to levitate. He was in danger again. In fact, the other two students were in danger as well. However, he wasn't sure if they were still around him at this point. Had they gone to get a nurse? Chip wasn't exactly aware, or really cared at this moment in time. He was only aware of the growing pain. The writings flashing through his head, and the growing expanse that was his mind.

There was too much. Chip was slipping in his grasp. Fingers slipping against the current of knowledge and writings. He couldn't hold on for much longer. Everything was slipping away. The books, the papers everything began whirling like a storm around the three. Paper cuts and bruises were more than likely, as they began to fly about the room. The nurses' wouldn't appreciate the mess.

He lost his grasp.

Now Chip was in the current, it was all down hill. There was nothing to grab on to. Nothing... The blond's thoughts even felt like a jumbled mess. The only thing he could make out was Grim.

It was the only thing he needed.

Another thing to grip. The blond grasped the thought of the book. It's contents, and with that Chip shut out the flood of knowledge. He let it organize itself.

The everything slowed to a stop. They were safe.

"Uh, my power? Talking to any sort or creature. Not that it would be much help here..." He said, feeling stupid for not having a gift that could help.

"Ya sure, I guess. Where should I look first though?" He said quietly. Interesting power, wonder if that makes her immortal? Wouldn't life get lonely? He wondered while waiting for her reply.
