Judging the Distance [Open]

Daniel, a new student to beata, and new to his gift, stood on the goal line of the football field. He was practicing with his gift. Ever since he and his sister had discovered their gift, he felt like he was just a smidge better than she was. He couldn't exactly describe it, but it seemed he had better control over it, though both of them had a hard time making it deal any serious damage, or traveling a super far distance. He had a lot of work to do...

Which was why he was here now. He wanted to see how far he could make a blast travel before it dissipated into nothing. His right was folded in except for his index finger, and middle finger which were fully extended. A soft blue glow sat at their tips. He drew his right hand back, across him, then made a horizontal slashing motion with them. From his fingers an energy blast was made, it looked a bit small, and traveled at a decent rate, but it only moved about 15 yards before it disappeared.

Danny repeated the process again, and again, and again. Until he was panting from working his gift so hard. Each blast only traveled about 15 yards, some occasionally went further, and some didn't even touch 15 yards. The soft glow that sat on his finger tips disappeared, and the initiate fell to the ground, sitting down to prevent further exhaustion. Eventually he would get back up and try again.

Jake and Maria walked around the courtyard for a bit, enjoying the crisp air and talking about the dorm they shared. It was always fun to catch up on the latest gossip now and then. They walked around tofootball field, kinda just wandering, realizing someone was there. "What has he been doing, practicing his power?" Maria said slyly watching the student pant like a dog.

"Don't be mean Maria." Jake chucked as the pair of tall students walked towards the newbie. "Trying to destroy the school already?" Jake said teasingly, raising a brow.

Gabriel had been wandering around campus, looking something to do when he spotted the boy he had met the other day. Danny was his name. The Summer wondered where his sister was. He wandered closer to the boy and watched as he used his power. Gabe realized that he had never seen the newcomer use his gift before. He saw two people he hadn't seen before walk up to the Initiate. "Hey Danny!" he called from the sidelines of the field.

Daniel scrambled to stand up off the field, and move away from the students. He didn't like people, and these people seemed to cocky for their own good. "No." He said in a monotone. Not stuttering in the slightest. Oh god why couldn't his sister be here right now? He felt slightly relieved when he heard a familiar voice. He looked behind him to see it was the guy who had helped him, and his sister. "Oh hey." He said to the boy, before looking back towards the others.

"Haven't seen you around before." Maria said charmingly with a smile. "Well, at least you're having fun." She looked around at the field, then to the other guy to happened to show up.

Jake looked at he boy and then to Maria. "Sorry if she's a bit intimidating." He chuckled. He gave a nod towards the other boy who seemed to know this guy. "So you guys know each other?" He said coolly, putting his hands in his pockets.

Gabriel nodded as he walked up to the group. "Yeah. Met him when he first arrived. The name's Gabriel, by the way." he said, doing a mock bow. He turned to Danny. "I've never seen your gift before. Its pretty cool." he told him.

Danny wasn't intimidated. He just didn't like new people. He also didn't like the fact that is seemed the girl was trying to intimidate him. Well it wasn't going to work. His breathing had returned to normal. He turned towards Gabe slightly. "It's just energy blasts.. Its not really anything special."

"Danny, I'm here!" Larissa's voice rang from the side of the stands before she entered the field. She had told him to go on ahead while she finished up some homework and was going to meet him soon to practice their power since it was actually something that could be practiced. Breathing hard from trying to catch up before she froze from the sudden amount of people that had shown up in the short time Daniel had left her. "O-Oh, hello. Have you already started practicing Danny?" she asked as she awkwardly made her way to her brother's side. She glanced at Jake and Maria, having no clue who they were, but she gave a big smile to Gabriel. "Hello Gabriel! Good to see you here!"

Maria elbowed Jake in the side for making that comment about her. "Idiot." She mumbled and slightly turned her head towards a girl that ran over to the group. "So, you guys siblings?" Maria asked as she observed as the girl cowered to the boy's side.

"Nice to meet ya Gabe. You seem pretty popular with these two." The tall student smirked. He gave a smile to the other girl that came over.

Gabriel returned the girl's smile. "Hi Larissa! Good to see you too!" he said happily, "And trust me, Danny, compared to my gift, yours is absolutely brilliant." He turned to Jake. "Well, yeah, like I said, I was here when they arrived." he replied.

Danny turned towards his sister as she ran up, it seemed she was intimidated by other too or at least it seemed like it. "Yeah. You were taking too long so I went ahead and practiced a bit." He said with a shrug, his hands stuff in his jacket pockets. He looked back towards Maria. Most people weren't able to tell that two were siblings. It must have been the way Rissa was acting at the moment. "We're twins actually." He didn't even respond to Gabe. The twins' gift wasn't that great compared to some others, but it can deal damage when it needed too.

The brunette looked towards Maria and Jake with a small smile. "Normally people can't tell. I'm Larissa... by the way," she said softly, tucking her hands behind her back bashfully but she tried to keep her positive mood. She was expecting the first few days to be rough since everyone here were strangers, but she wasn't expecting to run into this many people all at once. Thankfully Daniel was here and so was Gabe. Turning towards Grabriel, Larissa cocked her head to the side questionably. "What is your gift, Gabriel?" she asked curiously. He never said when they first arrived, but with the way he seemed so impressed by Daniel, she wanted to know. Maybe these gifted students weren't as bad/intimidating as she thought.

"Well, it's not that hard to tell if people are siblings." She smiled towards Larissa.

Jake looked at Maria. She's one hell of a good faker. He admired how good she was at knowing people. "So do you guys have the same power then?"

"I'm a metamorphmagus. I can change how I look. Watch." he said to Larissa, concentrating. Slowly, the red streak in his hair turned to his natual blonde and the rest of his hair turned red. "See?" he said, "You know, I might just keep it this way for awhile."

Danny watched as the Gabe changed his appearance. It was pretty cool, and it could be useful for trying to sneak away from things or something. He looked back towards Maria and Jake. "It is when we don't even look the same. Anyway. Yes our gift is the same." He said, responding to the both of them in a monotone. He didn't like this Maria person. She seemed to cocky for her own good.
