Magic sat in the library, a pencil in his hand which the end was softly tapping on the table. His other arm rested on the table as the boy was slumped over the table staring at an open book in front of him. There was a stack of four books next to him all ranging of various sizes. A frown etched the boy's features There was nothing here! No information or anything! God, he spent a good two hours going through books looking for any information on this place, but found none! This is what he got for listening to rumors. He slammed the book closed, but flinched slight at the noise. It was loud, but it didn't earn him any glances or anything..
With a sigh Mason pushed the book to the side, and looked at the next book. He flipped through the pages looking for a certain piece of information. Just a tiny sliver that hinted at where this place was. Why was it so difficult to find any information? All of the rumors he heard said something about a cave, a cavern of sorts that took away one's ability to use powers. Now being a science person he was, it interested him, but any time he heard some sort of rumor on it none of them ever said where it was. The only mention was that it was somewhere out in the forest, and that would take a good long while to search. Even if he did search the whole place the entrance was probably hidden, and looking for something hidden in a place that huge would take forever.
After flipping through this one book for a while, he had ended up with the same amount of information. Nothing. God this was hopeless, but why hadn't he given up yet? He was slightly determined. Maybe he wanted to see if a place like this existed. He shoved the second book off to the side, and grabbed the next book. He set down the pencil, and used that hand to support his face as he looked down at the book with boredom. He other hand flipped through the pages, and his gray-green eyes looked through rather quickly, looking for something that looked like a hint or something.
His hand flipped to the nest page, then he froze, and then flipped back to the last page. He set down his hand, and stared at the page, his eyes scanning through the words at a relatively fast pace. There! There was finally some information! Finally! He quickly tossed his pencil into the gap between the two pages and closed the book. He needed to save the spot so he could look back to it if he needed it. Grabbing the soda he brought with him, he scoped up the book with him, and took off out of the room. He didn't scare if he messed up someone's papers he had a place to find, and only a few hours left to do it. Well he had all night, but he would probably get into trouble for missing curfew or something.
In the few moments of walking down the hall way Magic didn't care if he missed curfew, and that if he stayed late he would probably skip class tomorrow. Mysterious cave was more important. With his soda successfully tossed away and the book, and notebook in his hand he took off in a rush across the school yard and into the forest.
The book said it was somewhere near the lake. That narrowed it down a bit, but it was still going to take a while of searching. Was the enterance somewhere in the ground? Was it somewhere on a cliff face? Maybe it would be best to check the cliff faces first, then move to looking under, and behind everything else. Ugh this was going to take a while.. Better get started.
Two hours had passed. The sun was down, and darkness had settled in. The cold air nipped at the boy how refused to go back inside to the warmth. He was on a mission. He buried himself further into his jacket, and occasionally he would switch the hand that was holding the flash light so he wouldn't lose a hand or anything. He had made a decent amount of progress but he had found nothing, and he still had a good ways to go before he would finish searching the cliff face. Maybe another three hours of searching? Maybe more? The boy let out a sigh. He would finish with the face of the rocks then he would head back. It would take a good many minutes to get back. He would surely miss curfew at this rate. Mason let off a sigh, and continued his search.
After an hour he had finally found it. Satisfaction and happiness sparkled in his dull colored eyes. He was tired, cold, and worn out, but he didn't care. Finding this was worth adding to the dark circles under his eyes. He was pretty sure this was the enterance anyway. For all he knew it could lead him to a dead end, or just some simple cave that didn't cancel out powers. He wanted to mark down the entrance on the map, but did the school's maps even reached this far? He was pretty far into the forest, and away from the school. It would be hard for anyone to find him here. Maybe he should come out here when he wants to get away from people? It was an idea.
He looked at the entrance. He could see how this would be hard to find. It was a small enterance, but it could still get a person through, but there was also the fact that it was covered by some bushes, and brush. He studied the entrance for a moment, trying to recall exactly how he got here so he could do it again. Alright it was time to go inside.
Slowly he pushed past the bushes, and then into the small cave entrance. He let the flash light guide his way into the darkness. From the looks of it, he would be in this tunnel for a while. He shook his head, and pushed back the small amount of fear that had managed to work it's way into his chest. With a deep breath he continued down the tunnel, feeling that it slanted downwards as he went along. Hopefully this didn't lead to a drop.
After about three minutes of walking, some light started appearing from some unknown source. Magic could feel his super hearing going which meant he was almost there. He still didn't like the feeling of loosing his hearing. It made him feel like he was going deaf. Losing his hearing only happened a few times. The first time was after he fought Hosa. He couldn't hear anything for a few days. And then after his interaction with Adeline he had lost it again. He could only assume she stole it somehow in attempt to make him sleep, but it didn't work. It only made him more on edge as he returned to the forest that night. He shook his head, and pushed his way forward.
After one final narrow spot, and one last squeeze, Magic stumbled into the cavern. His hearing had finally fully disappeared. He didn't like it one bit but he finally reached what he was looking for. He looked around in amazement for the cavern Light was filtering in from somewhere. He couldn't exactly pinpoint where. It was enough light for him to see, but not enough for him to see all the details. If he wanted to see the details he would have to use his flashlight. Maybe during the day it would be brighter? He wasn't too sure.
He moved forward looking around the cave getting a good note of how big it was. His footsteps causing some water to splash as he stepped into small puddles from the water dripping down off the ceiling. That would be a bit annoying. Well he would just have to avoid standing over puddles or something when he was taking some notes.
Once he reached a dry spot in the middle of the cave, he sat down, and placed the book beside him. He opened the book, and took out the pencil he placed in the middle of it, and then opened his notebook. He jotted down a few things before looking up at the cave around him. This would be a nice place to actually have a fight with some people. No gifts, just strength.. Just like the old days in his gang. he was fairly strong, but if he came out here every so often, and sparred with someone he could easily improve his physical strength. Also it would be fun fighting without a gift for once. He quickly scribbled down a note in the top margin of his notebook before moving on to something else.
He took another good look around the place, and wrote down more stuff. Another thought hit him. He could bring others here and run some tests too! Well mostly just to see if there was anyway to break the cancellation of gifts. He didn't think there was but maybe it was worth a shot in testing. Maybe he could also find out why this cave could cancel out gifts? There were many ideas in his head, many possibilities to look into. He continued to write in his note book as he took notes. Yeah he wasn't going to return to the school for maybe a whole day. He was certainly missing classes tomorrow though. That was for sure.
