Silence of the Mute [Open]

That was one thing Rose didn't do. She didn't know too much about the school or why they did things a certain way. "I'm.... I'm not sure.. Do you have... any idea?" She kind of wanted to know if this guy had any theories as to why this was the case. Maybe a conversation could be made from it. She wasn't one to usually think about why people did things, but maybe he was. Maybe this could be an interesting topic.

The boy shook his head. "Nope. I wish I knew, though. This machine is the most advanced piece of technology on the campus." he said with a silent chuckle. He wished he could at least laugh without his power going off. "I really wish this damn thing could convey emotions better." he said, unsure whether or not Rose would get that what he typed was meant as a joke.

Rose looked at the machine that was on his wrist. It was kind of cool how easily it spoke for him, it wan't anything she had see before. It was pretty interesting. She couldn't help but wonder what made it work, and what it's inner machinery was. "W-well..." She started still getting mad at herself for stuttering. "I.. think.. it's pretty cool.. and interesting... especially seeing how.. it speaks for you." She said. "Where... where did you get it?" She asked. Maybe she could find more information on it, and find out what made it work.

Casey thought about that for a minute. Where did he get it? "I'm not really sure, to be honest" he admitted. "I think my parents bought it from some company that had this as a prototype. It must've been a near-release prototype, because I haven't run into any issues so far." He shrugged. He didn't really care for it, but it did help him talk in most situations. "Although I wish it could have a different voice. The one it has now is really unnerving." he added. Maybe the company that made it would come out with updates for it. His parents would probably buy it for him, in an attempt to keep him content without actually giving him any attention.

Oh. His parents must have been rich then. Her family didn't have much but that was alright. As long as she had a safe place, and people who wanted to protect her for once, she was just fine without too much stuff. "I don't mind the voice to much.." He couldn't yell at her, he could point out her mistakes with his tone. It was just a monotone, and it kept her relaxed a bit. Though she wouldn't know if she upset him or not. It didn't seem that way.

"I don't like it. It's too robotic and creepy." he typed, shrugging. "If I really wanted to I could complain to my parents and they'd do something about it. That is, if they ever got to reading any letter and/or text." Even when he was a baby, he'd always had a nurse or a nanny to look after him. His mute of a father and his very talkative mother were always busy with some business call or another. His father did all the actual business, while his mother was an interpreter, since his father and he shared the same gift.

"Well... if you don't like it.. then maybe it wouldn't hurt... to try asking them.." Maybe they would comply with his request for a different voice. Rose looked at the device for a moment. She would modify the voice if she could but she didn't know anything about coding or robotics.. "Or maybe... you could find someone.. around the school good with.... tech.. to fix it for you..." She suggested to the boy. She wanted to ask why he had the device but then she realized that would be a dumb question and she would probably get yelled at for asking something like that.

"Going to my parents would get nothing." he "said." "But that other idea, I think you've got something there. Do you know anyone with that kind of gift?" Maybe if he could find someone who could modify the machine, he could finally get rid of that awful voice. It was a long shot, he knew, but he could hope, right?

Rose shook her head sadly. "I.... I don't.. interact with others.... enough.." Her voice was slightly soft than before because she couldn't help this guy. He was probably going to get mad at her for suggesting it and then not being able to help him after that, then another idea came to her head. "But... maybe a prefect... would know.." If he asked one of his prefects or a prefect in general they could probably direct him in the direction of someone that could.

"I'll have to ask one of them sometime, I guess." he replied, shrugging. It didn't take a genius to guess that she didn't talk to people much. Even someone like him, a boy that was smaller than she was, was setting off her anxiety. He himself had terrible anxiety sometimes, but she seemed like everything set it off. He figured something really bad must've happened to trigger that level of anxiety.

She didn't know how to judge his response. Was he disappointed with her lack of knowledge or was he angry at it? It was confusing somewhat. If he hadn't shrugged she would have been fine, but he had so she didn't know how to respond. Maybe she should apologize. "Sorry... I don't know too much... on the subject." She hoped that he wasn't mad at her. Her fingers messed with the hem of her sweater. She had this one for long enough that it was starting to fray a bit at the end from her messing with it so much. She didn't know how to continue the conversation. She wasn't much for talking she preferred to stay quiet but she didn't think it was possible. She also didn't want to anger him by suddenly leaving. "So... How.. long have you.. been here?" She said, saying the first thing that came to mind.

"Not very long. Just about a week. How about you?" he responded. He was just about ready to go take his test to get sorted into whatever house he was meant to be in. He was so tired of staying in the initiate dorms. They were rundown and it seemed like no one had ever cleaned them before.
