Workshop [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Workshop [OPEN]   Workshop [OPEN] EmptySun Jul 17, 2016 2:09 pm

The midday sun pierced a studio window, illuminating several eisels that formed a semicircle. However, rather than paintings and other artwork being displayed on them, various drawings akin to blueprints sat on them as Stavros walked back and forth between them, occassionally pausing to write or draw on one. Along the back wall of the room opposite to the eisels were seemingly random materials like metal, wood, plastics, and other things that he'd gotten from taking apart what he'd bought from Rosebury or simply found lying around. This wasn't exactly the best way to get supplies, but he was in the middle of nowhere now. So for the time being he'd simply have to deal. Besides, this worked well enough. Stavros continued to work on the designs in silence, sometimes going to examine what was on the table.

PostSubject: Re: Workshop [OPEN]   Workshop [OPEN] EmptyTue Jul 19, 2016 5:51 pm

He had yet to see everything around campus. Dimitris had made it his mission to finally see all of the buildings and this was his last stop. Pushing the doors to the studios open, he walked in warily, trying to see if anyone else was here. The place looked like it wasn't used that much, but that was okay. Dimitris wasn't really one to enjoy being around people. With a small sigh of relief, he relaxed as he walked through the empty hallway. The building looked pretty outside of the dust that seemed to be collecting everywhere. He figured he should get a good look around. Unfortunately, the first door that he picked, he opened cautiously, but it opened to reveal Stavros walking around between pictures of things. Almost immediately, Dimitris' heart jumped into his throat. Why did someone else have to be here? "I, um... sorry," he said softly, probably not even being heard by how hard the other boy seemed to be concentrating.

Stavros froze as he heard the door open despite his focus, followed by the voice. So the studios were not quite as abandoned as they had previously seemed. Of course, whether other students were around was entirely irrelevant; he wasn't trying to conduct his work in secrecy or anything like that. Continuing on as if no one had interrupted, he opened his mouth and spoke, his concentration seemingly unaffected by this, whether or not it actually was. "Hello. You do not need to apologize; your interruption did no harm." The thirteen-year-old's fairly high-pitched voice constrasted heavily with everything else he had shown, almost acting as a reminder of his youth. While it wasn't obvious do to his continued work which had him moving around quickly enough that his long, emerald hair tended to swing to and fro gently, he awaited a response from the other student.

PostSubject: Re: Workshop [OPEN]   Workshop [OPEN] EmptyWed Jul 20, 2016 6:39 pm

He really had no idea what to do. Would it be rude to just walk out or would it be worse to stay? Dimitris didn't know what to do and the boy's words didn't help much. It was difficult to understand everything that he said, but the winter could piece it together for the most part. "Okay..." he muttered, still split on what to do. Rather, he ended up just awkwardly standing there in the doorway, watching Stavros work on his pictures. Maybe he should try to reach out. This was a new place for him, after all. There were a lot of new people and new opportunities. That's what the United States was for, right? Gaining a little bit of confidence, Dimitris stepped into the room carefully. "What... What are you doing?" he asked, having to say the words over and over to make sure he made sense. English was still difficult even though he had been here for some time.

"Designing various things that would be useful to have in my possession. Although for the time being I won't be able to fabricate a significant portion of what I design due to what materials I have access to being somewhat limited. So far I have only been able to obtain various types of wood, metals, and miscellaneous electronic components." Stavros seemed not to notice, or, if he did notice, care that he'd talked as much as he did in response to a fairly simple and straightforward question. Although, he'd stopped multi-tasking when he finally did stop speaking, turning to face Dimitris. More emerald hair framed his face, which showed a least a little joy on it. Whether this joy came from what he was doing before, or if it was from talking about what he was doing before, or something else, wasn't able to be determined easily.

Okay so maybe this wasn't such a great idea. As the boy talked, Dimitris had a harder and harder time understanding what was being said. He picked up on a couple of keywords mainly focused around the materials he said that he had. The confusion showed on his face too. Dimitris stared blankly at Stavros, his eyes wide in a nervous sense of loss. He had no idea how to respond to Stavros other than just stand there awkwardly. As soon as the two of them made eye contact, however, Dimitris's eyes quickly shifted to the ground. "Den nomízo óti boró na to káno aftó..." he muttered under his breath, rubbing the back of his neck before realizing that Stavros was probably waiting on some kind of response. "I, er... sorry. I do not understand," he told him shyly, hoping he didn't upset the boy.

Stavros noted how Dimitris handled all that he said, followed by the muttering in... Greek, maybe? Not to mention the apology that followed it. Well, it'd be a bit of a hurdle if much of what Stavros said went without being understood. However, this issue could be eliminated. Simply nodding in response to the apparently Greek-speaking student front of him, he quickly grabbed a large sheet of paper from the table on which his assortment of supplies was. Replacing a sheet that was drawn and written on, Stavros placed this blank paper on one of the eisels and started drawing quickly whilst starting to speak again, intentionally simplfying his vocabulary for the time being, albeit not very much.

"I will make something that will translate everything I say so that you will hear it in your own language." Stavros' eyes stayed on the paper as he drew something akin to a blueprint whilst speaking. It wouldn't take terribly long to make two of these devices, one for Dimitris and one for himself, assuming what electronics he had gotten his hands on would suffice. If not, hopefully it wouldn't take long to address that issue.

Workshop [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Workshop [OPEN]   Workshop [OPEN] EmptyFri Jul 22, 2016 6:43 pm

The sound of rustling paper caught Dimitris's attention. Looking back up, he tilted his head at the sight of Stavros scribbling down designs of something that looked unusually strange. He somewhat caught on to what the boy was saying about translating languages which almost immediately piqued the winter's interests. It had been so difficult for him since he got to Beata to be able to understand everyone. The language barrier was too big and there weren't any classes on how to speak English. Everything was about reading and complicated academic stuff so Dimitris found himself falling behind in almost every class.

Awkwardly walking up behind Stavros, he watched diligently as he drew the design, trying to figure out what he had planned. He wanted to speak up and ask but he knew the attempt would ultimately be in vain due to language. Instead, Dimitris shut his mount and simply watched, getting lost in the drawing and simply waiting patiently for him to get done.

Workshop [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Workshop [OPEN]   Workshop [OPEN] EmptyWed Jul 27, 2016 8:38 pm

After a few minutes of drawing Stavros picked up the paper off of the easel, setting it on the table beside his supplies. Assuming that he had all the supplies he needed, he'd be able to make two of this device, one for himself and one for Dimitris, here and now. However, he would still need to do necessary programming for the devices. But just like constructing the device, he'd be able to do that here. Stavros eyed a dark blue satchel on the table amidst the supplies, taking up what little space remained on its surface after he had to make room for the paper. In that satchel was (in addition to various tools) the laptop Stavros had brought to the school, the only thing he did bring besides clothing and tools. How could he leave it behind? It was what he always used for tasks such as this, and he'd modified it himself. It had grown to be an invaluable tool.

Using metal, plastic, and electronics and such that had mostly come from pre-paid phones he'd "obtained" from the general store in Rosebury, Stavros put together two identical, flip phone-shaped grey devices after quite some time. They didn't exactly look like the most high-quality things, but you have to make due when you lack the machinery to do this stuff properly. The devices were clearly not cellphones despite their shape due to the lack of a screen and a simple switch on one side. On the two opposite short edges of the device were a speaker and a microphone, which Stavros labeled by ingraving the plastic around them. In addition, they both had a port on one of the long edges.

Leaving the two devices sitting on the table, Stavros pulled his somewhat obviously modified laptop out of the satchel it was in, turning it on. While he waited, he started plugging a cord into it, plugging the other end into one of the devices.

PostSubject: Re: Workshop [OPEN]   Workshop [OPEN] EmptyTue Aug 09, 2016 3:33 pm

As soon as Stavros got to work, Dimitris simply stood and watched as the boy moved around the room with intent. It was amazing to watch him move around the room, grabbing tools and materials from all sides and put them together to make what looked like small earbuds. It seemed like it took almost no time at all to put together as Stavros plugged both pieces into his laptop. While the winter still wasn't sure what Stavros was trying to do, it was still cool to watch while the boy was in his element. "Wow..." he muttered, awkwardly moving to where he was more or less standing over the boy's shoulder, watching what he typed up and did on his computer. "This is... supposed to help?" he asked, curious to know what it's supposed to do. He remembered that his own language was mentioned but he hadn't quite put the pieces together to create a solid idea.

Stavros simply nodded in response to Dimitris, typing away at the laptop. Occassionally he'd open up various files quickly, making use of bits and pieces of random things he'd already made or files he'd acquired one way or another. Hopefully this would speed the process up somewhat, he'd prefer if this didn't take too long to do. More time passed as the tapping of keys kept the room from growing silent, until sventually Stavros unplugged the first device from the laptop. He held it out to Dimitris before momentarily plugging in the second device, unplugging it and putting it in his own ear. Looking rather excited compared to how indifferent he looked previously, Stavros got up before turning to Dimitris.

"Say something in Greek while holding in the button on the side." His excitement filled his voice as spoke, holding in the button on the side of his own device, letting go once he was done speaking.

PostSubject: Re: Workshop [OPEN]   Workshop [OPEN] EmptyTue Aug 16, 2016 5:23 pm

After eagerly watching Stavros for a little bit, Dimitris quickly got bored. He was still curious to know what this was all about, but instead of hovering over his shoulder, Dimitris pulled up a chair and waited for him to be done. Suddenly he perked up again when the boy's hand stuck out to him, holding one of the devices for the winter to grab. Carefully grasping it, he placed it in his ear as Stavros did with the second one, giving the boy a confused look. "O-Okay." Pressing the button, he tried to think of something to say. It was so hard to think of something simple under pressure. "Eínai aftó entáxei? Elpízo na min káno láthos..." Through the earpiece, it quickly translated. Is this okay? I hope I am not doing it wrong.
