Taking a Chance [closed] Empty
PostSubject: Taking a Chance [closed]   Taking a Chance [closed] EmptyThu Oct 27, 2016 1:41 pm

Standing on the edge of the curb, the six year old boy took a deep breath scared beyond belief. His soft, pale chestnut colored hair flowed in the soft breeze and a shiver was sent up his spine and a gust of wind blew by. It was a bit too chilly for his taste. Already not in a very good mood, he was still mad towards the cab driver and how he constantly doubted Chance's word that he was supposed to go to Beata Academy, being that he was so young. Clenching his small fists, the boy gritted his teeth. Now was not the time to be angry.

On his back was a small black backpack and he wore a tan shirt with pants that were slightly too loose on him. The boy's face was like that of baby's and anyone who didn't know his background would think that he was lost. Besides, what in the world was a six year old doing at a high school for gifted and hormonal teens? In all honesty, he didn't want to be here, and quite frankly, he was positive that he'd get bullied, but in the end, his parents were persistent and he had no choice but to transfer to the school for the gifted and bitchy.

Letting out a sigh, Chance walked past the fancy gate and into unknown territory, wide eyed and gawking at how big everything was. Well, no shit everything was huge, he was just so damn tiny. His short child legs forced him to walk extremely slow and it drove him crazy. Being a kid, especially this age was unfortunately an accident and if he could have anything in the world, he would wish for his normal life back. Granted, being this age meant that most girls fawned over his cuteness and he got more attention, but it also meant that life was very, very limited. No hanging out with friends, no being a part of usual teenager activities, life was a constant drag. And what pissed him off even more was that fact that no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get himself to turn back to his normal self. If he did, it was on accident or only lasted for a few minutes. His parents always had to lie to his friends and tell them that he'd gone away on a trip, and that him as his younger self was just Chance's "younger cousin" visiting because of family issues.

That was another thing that pissed him off. It wasn't really because of the fact that his parents were just trying to protect his identity, but it was that fact that all this crap was happening to him in the first place. Couldn't he just live a normal life, with normal friends, and go to a normal school? No one he met ever knew who he really was, and he wished it weren't like that. All anyone he'd meet would only remember him as a little boy, and he'd never be able to tell them the truth. That was all he'd ever asked for, and what he didn't understand was why. Why did the universe just seem to hate him and like to make him suffer in his younger self's body? It was as if he was trapped for all eternity, never to see the daylight of a teenager again, and universe was just sitting back and laughing at him.

Completely lost in thought, the short boy didn't realize where he was going and tripped over a large crack in the cement. Caught off guard Chance fell to the ground, barely having enough time catch himself and fortunately saving himself from a full on face plant. The palms of his soft hands scraped against the hard surface and his knees slammed into the rock path, forcing tears to stream out of his eyes. Sitting back onto his butt, he looked at his hands which stung like crazy and then looked to his knees. A rock had managed to rip a hole in his pants and blood seeped through, staining the tan a dark red. Thankfully only one of them was bleeding, but between the overwhelming sting in his hands and the tears making his vision blurry, Chance couldn't really tell if the other knee was bloody or not.

Now, if he was his normal age and body, of course he wouldn't be crying, but being in a child's body came with some annoying quirks. He was more prone to falling from his short legs, much more sensitive to pain, not able to talk normally, and so on were just a few of the wonders of being a child. Unfortunately, when he changed into this age, his gift did something to his mind that made him have more of a child's mentality, even though there was still part of his older self that was still in there. Maybe that was why he wasn't able to figure out how to turn back to his normal self?

Sniffling, Chance sat on the ground, clutching his knee to his chest and let out a soft whimper when he accidentally put too much pressure on his scraped up hands. A small drop of snot fell on the ground and he used his sleeve to wipe the remaining slimy substance off of his face. The small child's tears didn't cease and as much as he didn't want anyone to see him in this pitiful state, all he wanted was for someone to come and help.

And boy--did help come.

Class had just gotten out that day, and there was a lack of homework that left Leo with the ability to head right to the Daycare. There was nothing he'd like more than to be by his son's side. It had been a long day, and Shepard seemed to light it up. It was just the other day when Shepard first smiled. Leo had felt his world stop, and the light from the sun seemed brighter. Maybe it was just his overwhelming feelings, but it seemed so real. It was like Shepard was is sun and all the stars at night.

It was that fatherly instinct that kicked in when the unmistakable sound of a child's cries. Blue eyes shot up, and made contact with the small form on the ground. The boy clutched his leg, blood oozing out of a scrape. With a quick inhale, the angel was already hurrying over. He slid to a stop just in front of the child. In a soothing voice, he began to try and comfort the boy. "Hey there, it looks like you got a little bit of a scrape. That's okay. I'll help you." Leo went on muttering words softly, searching in his bag for a band-aid and Neosporin that he kept on hand for unexpected situations.

Gently, Leo leaned forward and rolled up the loose pants, exposing the cut. Within a short time, the boy was patched up with band-aids on every scrape. It only took a few minutes, Leo had practice--as his sister got into all sorts of trouble when they were younger.

"Now, what are you doing on campus, kiddo? Especially alone?" The blond added the last bit as an after thought. It was not the best of parenting choices to allow a small child to wonder the streets of Rosebury and ultimately Beata by themselves. Not all the students were nice to young kids. That added especially after the attack... A flicker of panic burst in his chest as the father remembered the danger Shepard had been in. It had been terrifying. If his parents were in Rosebury, they would know to watch over their child closely. So that meant-- "You are not from around here, are you?" Leo asked softly, eyes softening. There was still some confusion within him. Beata didn't bring in children, did they?

Hearing footsteps, Chance looked up and saw a blond haired boy with a cheery smile upon his face. He seemed to know what he was doing and not long after his guardian angel had appeared, he was patched up and ready to go. Sniffing, he looked up to the strange student with wide eyes. When the older student spoke, Chance felt a sense of relief and calmness, as a wave of calmness had gently washed over him.

Letting out a few huffs, Chance tried to talk but it only came out as mumbles for he was still trying to stop crying. "N-No," he whimpered. Shit, how was he supposed to explain this? I-I'm from Cali," the small boy added. There was so much he wanted to say, but being in this little kid body was forcing him to use let words than he wanted to. "I'm a new stubent," was the last thing he said, or at least attempted to say and took his backpack off of his back and pulled out some paperwork, handing it to the other student. He was told to take these to the front desk right away, but showing this guy was the only way that he'd be able to prove that he really was a student, no matter how small or young he was.

There was a tilt to his head, leaning in closer. "You are so young, I didn't think Beata brought in anyone younger than twelve..." The older student trailed off at the papers that were presented to him. With slow fingers, he looked over the print. Blue eyes landed on the boy's name; Chance. "Well Chance, let's get you situated. Okay?" The teen's voice was light despite the fact that the boy was a student. It confused Leo, as he'd never think that the headmaster would allow children into a highschool. But the Autumn trusted the older man, so whatever the situation was, Leo trusted him.

He stood up from his spot on the ground, then bending back down to lift Chance onto his feet. "You are from California? It heard it was a nice state. I bet the beaches are fantastic. I grew up next to a lake. That's as close as I really got to something like that." Leo carried on the conversation, a hand placed behind the other student's back as if guiding him along.

It only took a minute to get to the doors of the office. With papers still in hand, Leo entered with Chance. Once at the front desk, The blond placed the paperwork in front of the lady. However, he let Chance talk his way through getting everything situated. It is best to let children have some of their own responsibility.

Per usual, it was expected of this older student to doubt his words, but at this point Chance knew that it was no use in trying to argue the he was in fact a student here. Being helped up, he smiled up at the blonde student, wishing everyone was this accepting of his age. Ha, if only.

He listened to the other guy as he talked about California and wondered why everyone thought it was such a great place. Yeah, some places were nice, but to him, the state and every city in it was way to populated for his liking. Well, at least he was out of there once and for all, even if he was just transferred to another place with a bunch of people. Walking up to the school's entrance, he couldn't help admire how big and grand it was, seeing how he was so short compared to most other people. They walked in the doors and into another room which was even more amazing than the outside and half distracted by everything around him, he made his way to the front desk.

Luckily for him, there was a chair nearby or he wouldn't have been able to speak to the nice woman. Climbing up on it, he pushed the papers towards her and for a few minutes, had to try to explain to her that he was most definitely a student at this school. At first, she let out a small chuckle as she shuffled through the paperwork and then it hit him. He forgot to give her the note from his parents! Looking through his backpack, Chance finally found the note that explained that the headmaster had given him permission to attend Beata and handed it to the lady with a smile.

Upon reading it, she let out a sigh, most likely from embarrassment and handed him a key. Saying a polite thank you, the child put his backpack back on and climbed down from the chair. "What now?" he asked, looking up the older student that had accompanied him and hoping that he'd be able to show him around more.

The older student could do just that. Infact, that was what Leo had been planning on doing for the little guy. With every thing seemed to be ready and situated--and Chance was actually a student at Beata-- Leo gestured out the door, making sure to keep his pace in with what that is for Chance. Chance's legs were quite short, and being a good few feet taller than the boy Leo assumed that his pace would be much faster.

"Lets drop your stuff off then we can head out and show you around a bit." It was like a routine for Leo. He had lead plenty of new students around. Some he hasn't seen since and others who had become close friends with and see regularly. He'd never know. "Do you know a specific place you would want to go? There is the Library, Conservatory, Gym..." Leo rattled off locations within the school, eyes on Chance as they strolled towards the dorms.

It had been a while since he had slept in his bed. Sounded kind of nice.

"Okay," he started and shut his jaw, listening to his "tour guide" list places in the school. Geez, it was so big! Overwhelmed with all the choices of places to go, Chance stayed quiet, thoughts and questions racing around his small mind. "Uh, How 'bout library?" he squeaked, a happy smile on his face. Chance loved picture books, hopefully they'd have something kid friendly among the mass sea of novels and Non-Fiction books. Walking next to the blonde haired student, he was glad that he'd met this guy, someone who seemed familiar with small children and hoped that they'd be able to stay friends.
