| Not very good at dancing? Well if this was not very good at dancing then he wondered what very good at dancing would be like. She was much better than he was. He thought it was just going to be some simple dance, but she changed it to something more extravagant in his mind. He had never even imagined something like this, let alone dream about it. It was something he thought he would never do, but here he was. Mason honestly felt like he was proving his mother wrong about something, just by doing this dance with his close friend Adeline.
The dance had started out simple, something easy to keep up with, without having to think about it too hard. The tempo, and the flow of the music helped him getting caught up in the moment, and in the dance with the person he cared for. A person he recently discovered that he had strong feelings for. With the flow of the music in mind, he wasn't that caught of guard when she changed their dancing position. Magic just kept going along with whatever that she was going to do. She clearly knew a lot more than he did.
Soon after changing their positions, Adeline had done something his was more familiar with. He easily responded to her action with an action of his, own. At this point he was thankful for his gift, he could easily hear the beat in the music, and this way he could never lose it. Unless he really wanted to. Soon enough they were back to the second position that Adeline had set, and reverted back to the repeated steps, and movements. But it didn't take long for her to change it up again.
He couldn't help but watch her in awe, though he didn't let it distract him so much that the dance stopped. She was amazing in his opinion. Gracefully moving across the dance floor as he went along with it. He was glad he asked her to dance, because he was pretty sure he would never see anything like this anytime soon. He didn't even know how to describe it. Soon enough to his slight disappointment the waltz was coming to a close, but he was relieved at the same time, because he was pretty sure he wouldn't have been able to keep that up much longer.
Though at the end she did something she did something he didn't expect. His eyes widen slightly when she wrapped her arms around his neck, and leaned back slightly. He moved his arms into a position that he would catch her if she went to far and ended up falling. The music had ended but he couldn't find it in himself to move, and it seemed Adeline was the same way. He just looked at her for the moment, his face was warm with the blush that was on his face. Deep down he felt the slight temptation to press his lips to hers and kiss the girl he cared for so much. The girl who he thought was an amazing, selfless person. A person whom he could trust.
A soft smile made it's way on to his face. One that actually showed some feeling instead of those empty ones he used all the time. He would remember this moment for as long as he lived. He straightened himself out, pulling the winter girl up with him, so that they were standing up straight. His face was kind of close to hers, but it wasn't anything to be concerned about. He looked down at the girl in his arms, finally deciding to ask. "Adeline.." He said softly. "Will you go to the winter formal with me?"

| Even after she snatched her hands away from him, Magic had caught her again, clutching her close to him and Adeline didn't try to move. She could try and escape, but she didn't. What was she thinking? The more she did, the more she'd put him in danger... Let go, please. It was a silent plea that he'd never hear, the words never leaving past her lips when he asked her what she considered the unthinkable. Her eyes fluttered to a close for a moment and opened again, not meeting his face as her gaze remained downcast. She went over his question again in her head, trying to confirm what he had said, to think that this wasn't a trick. Maybe this entire thing was an elaborate scheme that he had come up with and somebody would pop out any second now with confetti and those annoying popping noises to tell her much of a fool she was.
It never happened.
She was being stupidly paranoid, overcautious, trying to find any flaw in all of this. It was so like her to not notice anything, to notice his sincerity, to remain completely oblivious. His words had been so soft that she almost didn't believe it. Things were so shaky between them, and that last move had shot a pang of embarrassment through her. Right, right... This wasn't a practice session with Kearn. This was at school. With a friend. A friend that she admired and noticed her even if she was just a nobody, a ghost. Someone who tried their hardest to make her happy when she didn't try herself, someone who cared for her well-being when she ignored it. This was so incomprehensible... so unlikely. How...? When...?
Magic never did believe she was content with how she was. He'd hear it with each fluctuation of her voice, breaking through her mind and the make-believe fairy tale that she tried to play. Life had never been very fair to her, it was never supposed to be. And another opportunity was being presented to her, to fix everything she had done before, on a silver platter, and she was reluctant to take it. Formal last time didn't end so smoothly.
Besides, how did he not have a date already? Sure, he was prickly and could be easily agitated into a fight, but he was what every other girl considered attractive. To top it off, he was powerful, intelligent, and was rather soft once someone got to know him. He always blew her out of the water and always received the attention with personal questions and responses while she hid in the back, merging with the shadows. Magic was a complete natural without even trying. She already knew their friendship would soon crumble apart, break apart like a shattering glass paperweight, and never reform.
The last time this happened, Katsuo. As great of friends they became, she had slipped, completely screwed up, and well... nearly killed him. Like how you try to remove everything you don't like. Wiping its existence off the surface of the earth, that was something she could do. She shouldn't even be friends with anyone; she knew the consequences - they always ended the same way. Ripping apart people's feelings, their bonds, everything. Yet, she kept clinging onto the possibility that one day, she'd find maybe someone who'd make the full attempt to understand the way she thought, every inch of her, like a life-line. That burning fire, that flickering flame of a hope, it kept igniting itself over again like a star that refused to burn out. It's so selfish...
She'd get in his way, ruin any dreams and wishes he wanted to complete, his own future. She didn't have any of those, having thrown them all away to become the stepping stone for others. That was all she wanted, and yet... he was presenting this opportunity to her. She was too scared to answer.
Why didn't he let her die back then...?
Why didn't he ever let her?
"I..." She didn't know what she was saying, but it all came spilling out, her heart beating at an erratic rhythm that she couldn't keep up with. "I-I uhm... Y-yes." God, even after all of this, she couldn't find a way to refuse. Even after going through all of the cons, all of the disadvantages and every way she'd put him down, she still found herself accepting the offer. Carefully, she untangled herself from his grasp, keeping her head low to hide the wide, faint smile that was forming. It'd be a big lie to say that she wasn't grateful that he asked her anyway.
Adeline stood up straight on her own, her hands dusting off the uniform skirt. How red was her face now...? Was that familiar warmth creeping to the tip of her ears again? She didn't know. She'd rather not know. She'd rather not know for so long as she felt just the least bit happy for herself, for once. That feeling faded away almost as soon as it came, though.

| He felt his gut drop when she took a while to respond. She was going to say no wasn't she? Fear spread throughout him and honestly he felt like he was just going to fall over, but he kept himself upright. Who cares if she said no? It was most likely not her thing anyway. She probably didn't like being around that many people. She is probably being selfless again, by helping him avoid all the noise the formal would cause. Maybe she was keeping him from embarrassing himself, cause his dancing was bad.
A million thoughts of why should would said no filled his mind, distracting him almost to the point he wouldn't have heard her response if it wasn't for his hearing. He blinked when he looked at her, being a bit surprised once again, but a smile replaced his surprise, and happiness replaced the fear he was feeling. He couldn't really help it, but he gave her a quick thank you hug. It was a rather short embrace, for he knew she didn't like being touched for too long.
He stepped back from her a bit, giving her some space. No matter how hard he tried he couldn't get rid of the smile on his face. He also ignored the fact that he was still blushing but it wasn't as bad as it was earlier. He wanted spend more time with her but, it was probably time for them to go. He had some work to do back at his dorm, and a book to read and make marks in cause science.
The boy let out a content sigh. "Thank you for agreeing." He said to her. "Though I have to go now. I have some science stuff I need to do." Well he didn't have to do it, but rather he wanted to. Science was something he always enjoyed, and reading stuff on it and making notes was something he did often for some reason.
He started turning back to her to say, "See ya later, Adeline." And with that he was out the door, heading for his dorm.
