Round 1: Kaya Yakone vs. Edward Jackson

Edward was beginning to realize that Kaya was crazier than she let on. He shrugged as she sidestepped the rock, knowing it wasn't going to work. "I don't really care what's up your sleeve, to be brutally honest." But he did care, he still was concerned about what she could actually do. He compressed his bo staff and set it in his sweatshirt pocket. Gathering up a bunch of rocks, he threw them at her in rapid succession, hopefully at least one would hit her. The Winter was going to play defensive until he knew what she could do.

Dodge to the left. Dodge to the right. Kaya had been learning to skate on the icy floor rather than step, to go with the slip if it happens to occur. She even began to slide a little on purpose, walked backwards with something of a pirouette. She pressed her back against the cave wall. "You gonna do that forever?" she asked smally. "I'm not asking for you to cut off my head, sir, but you aren't getting anywhere here." She pushed off the wall and did another spin, skating across the ice slowly and turning to keep a decent speed and to not fall.

She had a point. Rocks weren't getting anything done. "You're right, maybe I should try something different." he replied, getting slightly annoyed. Grabbing his staff again, he pressed the button and ran at the girl, hopefully not running into anything that she might have done to the ground. Sliding on the ice, he feigned a swing at her head while he used his leg to sweep Kaya's out from underneath her. Hopefully once that happened he could get the upper hand.

It worked like a charm. Kaya ducked, only to to be swept at the legs. She fell like an anchor was attacked to her legs, smacking her head on the ice and going dazed for a while. Hearing a whirring whistle buzz through her head, she started blindly shoot her power. She'd put them in the air and they would stick to ceilings, walls, or fall onto the floor around her. They looked like satanic floor marks, circular pulsating red lights, and they dappled the whole place. Nevertheless, she was incapacitated for a moment; she started to scramble back, holding the back of her head which was fresh with blood.

Edward had to dodge flashing red blips as they sailed by him. Carefully, he made his way around the red circles to Kaya. He had the upper hand, at least for now. He continued over to the girl and he nearly walked onto one of her traps, teetering over the edge of the circle. He stood over the girl and brought down his bo staff on the girl's ribcage.

Kaya shouts echoed through the chasm as the staff dug deep into her chest. It hurt like hell, the pressure pinpointed agonizingly into her torso. "Stop!" she screamed, kicking at his leg as he leaned over her to try and get him away. "Stop, stop!" all the while, the knife in her sock got looser, looser looser looser. The handle began to peek out over her leg.

Edward almost let up, almost laughed at her feeble attempt to kick at his legs. Instead he pressed down with more pressure. He was completely unaware of the knife that was slowly making its way out of Kaya's sock. "I'm done playing games." he said, mostly to himself. He was used to the screaming, he'd tortured plenty of people before, and this didn't even come close to the kind of torture he had given before.

Suddenly, with one kick up of her leg, the knife popped out, sliding backwards in Kaya's direction. She stumbled to grab it, clasping the handle. She began to stab at his leg, the only part of his she could reach as he bore the staff into her. It felt like she was going to be impaled by it, despite the blunt end; her life flashed before her eyes in a dizzy fervor as she fought, jabbing at him with the cleaver to make it stop. Nanook seemed to watch her from the shadows, waiting to take her away.

He grimaced in pain as she stabbed him in the leg. Letting off the pressure, he reached down and grabbed the girl's hand with the knife still inside his leg. Yanking the hand out with a gasp of pain, he squeezed her hand with as much pressure as he could handle. "Don't... do that... again." he said, his jaw clenched. Leaning heavily on the uninjured leg, he let go of the hand and smashed it with his bo staff.

And another scream. The palm make a cracking sound as the knuckles met too much pressure to the cold ice. She began kicking again, as it was the only way to stay alive, stay in the fight. She tried to go for his injured leg. If she could sweep that, she could maybe get away. Her short legs had difficulty maneuvering towards it, though; she tried to twist her body to get a good kick in, jabbing with her foot and raising her body with just her hand pinned then. She grabbed a hold of the staff weakly with her uncaptive fingers, and let a good jab.

Edward gasped audibly in pain when Kaya kicked his injured leg. It brought him down to his knee and he grabbed the knife from the ground next to her hand and brought it up to her throat. This was getting tiring. He was ready to get this over with. Pinning the girl down with one of his hands, he looked at her with cold blue eyes. "Are you ready to quit?" he asked the small girl. "Or do I have to do this the hard way?"

The knife was to her throat. She could feel the edge tap against her pale skin each time she swallowed, and she tried her best to nod with the blade right there. "I concede," she said quietly. Despite the cold of the battlefield, sweat poured over her forehead and down her flushed cheeks as she breathed loudly.
