| Dear Journal,
Dad gave me this journal before I left. I figured I should use it.
I'm writing this on the way to Beata.
I thought I'd be scared, but... I'm not. Not yet, anyway.
I miss home, though. I knew I would.
I miss Mama and Dad.
But I made my decision, and I can't let myself get caught up in regrets for all the things I'll miss.
Besides, I'm gonna send them letters.
I wonder how they're doing without me there?
Mom tried to keep me home, but I couldn't stay.
Dad tried to give me various weapons, but I kinda doubt they'd have survived the trip.
I'll figure something out once I'm there, anyway.
I'm hoping I meet people I can be friends with, or at least tolerate.
Anyway, that's all I've got for now, and I think we're almost there.
I'll probably keep copies of the letters I send home in here, too.
Just so I can look back on them later. | |

I was right. I'm a little intimidated by how big this place is and how many people there are.
But I think I'll get used to it.
I'm looking forward to making more friends.
Maybe I should get a pet, too.
I always liked bunnies.
But I'll have to wait to see if any of my dorm mates are allergic first, right?
As far as my gift, it hasn't improved much yet, but I haven't been here that long.
I'm sure I'll get better with some more time.
(There appears to be a letter taped to the journal, not yet sent.)
Dear Dad,
I'm settling in okay.
I miss you, though.
How are things at home?
Is Mama doing alright without me there?
Tell her I miss her, too, okay?
