holiday roommate date thing

A spring girl sat at a small two person table, looking at her phone. It was early into the Halloween day, and Sophia was here at the Cafe trying to wake up a bit. She hadn't ordered anything quite yet, she found herself not really knowing what to get. There was a lot she wanted to try, and she couldn't decided. So she ended up sitting down trying to think it through, but ended up getting distracted by her phone. She was trying not to fall asleep right then and there, but it was hard when you had nothing to keep you awake.

Logan looked at his phone, at the text he'd received from Sophia. She had asked him to meet her at the cafe, for that coffee he promised her. He's responded with "yes." Why wouldn't he? It was his break, and he liked Sophia; she was cool, for a roommate.

He walked through the door to a chorus of times, nodding a hello to the people he recognized. It wasn't his first time there. He searched the seats until he found Sophia, drifting off with her back turned to him. That was an opportunity he could not miss. With a sneaky crouch, he made his way to her seat, surreptitiously watching his footsteps. And when he got to her, his hand darted like a snake at her shoulder, and he went, "Boo," silent enough to not annoy others but sharp enough to be startling.

Sophia let out a small squeak in surprise of the sneak attack. She certainly wasn't expecting anything like that and being half asleep only made it worse. If her body hadn't been too lazy to move she would have most likely fallen out of her chair.

She rested her head against her arm, which was leaning on the table.. "Thanks for the heart attack." She said to Logan. She sat there trying to calm herself down. Her heart was beating kind of fast, and her chest moved more than normal in response to the panic response. Well now she didn't need something to wake her up, Logan already accomplished that. "Guess you are ready for tonight, seeing how you just scared me." She commented.

Logan sat down with a laugh, a little high pitched, but it was contagious and fun. "You sounded like a mouse!" He leaned back, a grin on his face illustrating his pride in such a success. She mentioned "tonight," though, and his grin faded as he thought. What did she mean by that? "What's tonight?" It left his mouth before he remembered. It was October 31st. He'd totally forgot.

A small grin appeared on the girl's face at his laugh, but it soon faded at his next question. How could he have forgotten? Most of the school was hyped for it. She gave him a 'really' expression at his question. "I guess you aren't ready then." She responded. He probably already remembered that it was halloween or would figure it out in a few seconds. "Anyway, can we get that coffee now? I might fall asleep soon if we don't."

"Go ahead. I don't want you falling asleep on me, I'm not that boring." He caught the gaze of a waitress, a grim embarrassed smirk as the stupid feeling of forgetting Halloween remained. The waitress blinked at him, and when he nodded, she came over. He ordered his drink, some autumn tea, and glanced over at Sophia, expecting her to order as well.

"Never said I would fall asleep cause of you." Sophia replied before the waitress came over. Sophia just told the girl that she wanted a Mocha, and left it at that. It was something she had before and knew that it was good, so it was just the better choice in the end. "I made the mistake of staying up last night and working on a drawing.. Which is why I'm so tired.." He didn't ask, but she decided to say it anyway. She was a very artistic student, which is why she went to an art school before she came here.

Logan raised an eyebrow, leaning back with an interested glow to his face, a beam. "Oh? You're an artist?" That was cool. Logan didn't know how to draw a stick person; he found those who could draw pretty cool. The waitress came back with their drinks, Logan undoing the lid to check the liquid, a golden auburn. Tea; he hated coffee, which was why it was so weird that he offered to take her out for some. They were the same thing at the end of the day. He sipped it, almost comically loud, eyes fixed on her.

The girl let out a soft giggle. "Yeah, I'm an artist, and a writer.. and many other things that involve art of some kind, like singing, and acting.. Though I mostly stick to drawing and writing." She never learned how to play an instrument though. The only musical thing she did was sing. She grabbed her coffee and took a sip of it. "That's exactly what I needed." Relief filled the girl's eyes.

Wow. That was certainly a lot of stuff. "Impressive," he said, pointing to her with his index finger as he lowered the cup. "And, well, I don't mean to brag, but I played Yankee Doodle on a recorder once--" he leaned back, elbows high on the booth behind him, and gave a sharp cut into the air with his hand as he emphasized "--and only made two errors." It was more like four. It was bad enough as it was.

Sophia folded her arms in front of her. "Oh wow, you need to be in an orchestra then. I don't think there is anyone who can do that." She said with a slight smirk on her face. She still needed to get back at him for suggesting she should drink out of a dog bowl. The Spring girl took another sip of her coffee. "How are things going in the infirmary?" She asked trying to make conversation.

"Slow." He lowered his elbows as soon as he was done with the joke, feeling kind of douchey. He felt the shifts of the people seated behind him. "Not a lot of people get themselves hurt in the colder months. I'm expecting that to change tonight." He looked out the window, sipping at the tea. "I may not be able to trick-or-treat with all you kids tonight."

"That's a bit disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing you in some costume weither it be cute or scary." She was slightly hoping that he would have a cute costume to wear, or something. "I will make sure I drop by tonight so you can at least see my costume. It's gonna be rather pretty." She said with a smile on her face. One of her hands was wrapped around her coffee cup.

"Cute?" Logan smirked at that. He never thought of a girl calling him that. He drummed a quick beat on the Styrofoam cup with his index fingers. "That would be nice. Make sure to break your leg or something, so you have more purpose to be there." He gave another absent-minded few to the outside world, seeing the wind whip against coat-clutching pedestrians as the night squeezed blue light out of the almost-faded sun, the sky a blacklit grayblue. "You think I could find a mask around here at this hour?"

"Yeah, cute." She said with a small smile on her face, which turned into a slight smirk as she made her next comment. "As long as you're there I'm sure I can find a purpose in being there without breaking my leg, and I'm sure you could find a mask if you aren't to picky about it. Though I'm pretty sure most of the better stuff is gone by now." She rested her head against her hand, which was supported by her arm on the table.
